Hi/Lo

"Hi/Lo" is a cardio mode of exercise done on the floor with no additional equipment like a step bench or BOSU trainer or rebounder. It tends to be faster-paced than step or kickbox (usually between 140 - 160 bpm). "Hi/Lo" does refer in part to the amount of impact: high impact is defined as a movement where both feet leave the floor; and low impact is defined as one foot always being in contact with the floor.

The word "aerobics" has kind of been twisted out of its root word's true meaning - "in the presence of oxygen" - by the popularization of the cardio classes in earlier days. Many exercise types are "aerobic" in that they have you move rhythmically and vigorously and require a lot of oxygen: step; kickbox; boot camp; swimming; running; etc.
