Hi
Can you use a medicine ball in place of the weighted bar for Kimberly Spreens absolute kickbox intervals? If not how heavy of a bar do you use? Thanks

Hi, Boxer!
A med ball really wouldn't work well for most of the moves. You need some kind of stick. I didn't want to use my 9# body bar, so instead I tried a dowel while wearing weighted gloves (3# per hand). That worked pretty well for weight and balance. If I had a bodybar about 6#, I would use that (at least until I get the moves down and am used to it).

Kathryn,

I totally agree with you on the 9# body bar! I have done that a couple of times and it seemed too dangerous - too risky for injuries. I felt really uncomfortable with it. I usually use 2# weighted gloves when doing kickbox workouts - like powerstrikes. So, I am conditioned enough, but not for a 9# bar. I wish I could get a 6# bar.

I might try to use a dowel with weighted gloves. Is it a little awkward?

Not really. No more than a Body Bar would be, at least. The weight is actually a bit easier to control than a weighted bar, IMO, because it's right at your hands. You'd have to try it out and see, though.

I use a 9# bar for this and find it works pretty well, overall...I usually feel some nice upper body DOMS the next day. The only part that feels a bit awkward is the "helicopter" move.
