Hey, Aquajock!

Hi, Rhiannon! I tend not to vary the intensity of my weekly schedule, but here it is in brief:

Sundays, either I-Max 1 enhanced (extended interval blasts, eliminated recoveries and Boot Camp cardio only at the end), OR Hi/Lo Hell (see "A-Jock's Fave intense mish-moshes) for cardio, then about 25 minutes of barbell squat/lunge work and long-leg ankle weight work; then abs (traditional and stability ball), then my upper body set

Monday p.m., hi-octane leg-circuit style routine for cardio and leg work (Circuit Max + CK power drills; my Oh-My Mish-Mosh; Terminator Gauntlet; those are my three faves right now); plus Cathe plank work and abs

Wed. p.m. - 80-minute aqua class (that I instruct as well as perform

Saturday: 80-minute aqua class plus post-class additiona leg, ab and upper body drills in zero-impact mode

Also during the workweek, 4X per week I take a brisk 50-minute walk during my lunch hour; also during the workweek I shut my door for about 15 minutes before work 4X per week and bang out some upper body lifting, targeting chest/tris one day, back the next, shoulders the next, and biceps on Fridays. Also after my walks at least once per week I like to do some light squats and lunges, no more than a minute or two.

FWIW =-

Thanks for your interest!

Hi Annette! I have a question for you. I remember reading a post of yours (in a thread started by Jillybean - can't remember which) that said you weren't athletic in school. As many of us can attest, consistent exercise does amazing things for health and fitness, but I wonder what has made you able to exercise at the level you do, considering you weren't "athletic" before.

I guess I'm asking this because I, too, was "unathletic" in school, but have been a consistent exerciser most of my adult life. I exercise as intensely and as often as feels right for my body; however, I don't and can't exercise on the same level as you. I'm not trying to compare or compete because I realize everyone's different and I feel great about my routine and my incremental improvements. I'm just wondering if there's some element in your fitness regimen that has allowed you to achieve what you have. Do you think it's the aqua? Higher pain tolerance? Irrational desire to keep up with rodents?

I suspect she's like Lance Armstrong, she can work at a higher level & for longer than most humans without lactic acid buildup. We're like poor Jan Ulrich, our mouths open in amazement.

Oh, it's definitely the rodent envy.

Hey Susan, tell Rocky to check out the buff and lovely specimens pictured at (I am not making this up) "Touched By a Squirrel," an internet soap opera. Here's the page on which the first chapter is told; it's up to 27 chapters now:

Who knew Rocky had so many talented friends (or could be relations; you know how squirrels are. ;-))

It is the compulsive personality in Ajock. Looks familiar to me! It can't be the higher pain tolerance, since AJOCK has never had kids, right?:)

And WHO really wants to know AJOCK's most intense workouts? Uggghh. No thank you, I don't want to feel like a weenie today!:)

RE: Rocky's Sister!

OMG, Kathy! How on earth did you find that site? Rocky's been trying for YEARS to find his long lost sister, Sandy Lee, and THERE SHE WAS, sporting a garish, suggestive cheerleading costume with multiple ear piercings to boot! I only hope it's not too late to rescue her.

(It amazes me what sites people will put on the internet.)

Hello, Sooooooooooooosan (if that is your real name today) . . .

I'm not really sure what it is about my exercise history (and lack thereof in my formative years) that has propelled me toward my current level of fitness and performance. I think, however, in retrospect that I have constantly, unconsciously, worked toward simply the ability to work harder. And a lot of that is in response to the sheer embarrassment I felt in my younger years at how awkward, ungainly and weak I so obviously was.

I think, as you've pointed out, small incremental increases in effort have produced amazing, cumulative, long-term results. What used to make me gasp now feels manageable. That holds true every year, and I've also applied that to aqua. I also believe that aqua being an integral part of my schedule has enabled me to work out longer, harder with less risk to the joints and less risk of overheating.

I don't think I'll ever lose the desire to try harder, to make today's work-to-failure workout tomorrow's simple challenge workout. Don't really know where all that comes from, but I ain't arguing. I took my blood pressure and resting heart rate a few weeks ago, as I mentioned in another post, and my BP came back 118/67 and my RHR 45 beats per minute. Those, my friend, are awesome numbers. Thank God for exercise.

RE: Rocky's Sister!

Hi Sooooooooooooooooooosan (and I believe rhis to be your real name today)!!

Believe it or not, it's the power of Google. When I was posting about Aqua's unfortunate rodent envy, I put in a Google search for "squirrel smiley," thinking that I'd find a cute emoticon for my post, and you wouldn't believe all the sites. Sit Rocky down in front of the screen and let him play -- he'll be amazed. First, though, I counsel you to prepare him for the tumult of emotion he'll undoubtedly feel wehn he sees Sandy Lee.

Hey, scroll through all the pics and you'll eventually find a buff A-Jock Wannabe sporting a real spiffy head-covering do-rag. (And I am not making THAT up either. :))

I'm sorry to intrude on your thread here, but I just had to tell you Ajock. I think that you are in phenominal shape, and I'm sure you already know that. And just to congratulate you on your success, you have obviously worked very hard to get were you are at. Way to go!
Oh, and I do plan on going to your class eventually here. Life it just very buisy and I haven't had time to get there yet. I'm sorry that it's taking so long. Hopefully in the next month here I will be able to go, because this summer life will just get buisier with t-ball and swim lessons for my son. So, I better make this a priority in the next month to come see you.
