Dear friends,
I finally gave birth last Monday night (1/28) at 8:10 p.m. to a 7.1 oz., 19 1/2" boy, Nathan Thomas.
We are home and getting settled and I have just a few minutes (or seconds) to let you all know that we are doing well.
Nate is happy (most of the time), adapting to the real world and simply adorable. I never really anticipated how desperately I would love him after only a few days. My heart is overwhelmed!
Suffice it to say that my labor and delivery wasn't as smooth as silk. It was a veeeeeery long (pitocin assisted) labor, my cervix was not interested in dilating and the baby wasn't tolerating the contractions well as the cord was around his neck. After much talk from the doctors about a c-section, they agreed to give me a time limit to see if I could dialate enough to start pushing. Then...the epidural wore off. YEEEEEOUCH. Well, yada yada yada...I ended up being able the push but the doctors didn't think I had in me to bring him down as he was still pretty high up. They ended up using a vacuum to assist, but I did it!! The doctors were impressed with how hard I was willing to push after such an ordeal. I thought my eyes would pop right outta my head. My husband was a FANTASTIC coach and truly could NOT have made it through without him. In fact, at one point I was willing to cut MYSELF open and pull him out!
Anyway, after the long ordeal of the delivery, I had a major laceration of my cervix that forced them to rush me off to the OR for some internal stitching. I hadn't even had a moment to see little Nate before they injected me with a huge dose of Stadol and upped my epidural. Let's just say that I was out of it.
As we started to recoup and I finally got the chance to see the baby, we are informed that the little man needed to have his frenulum clipped because he was tongue tied. Not a big procedure, but it was interfering with his ability to nurse and things were a little hectic until we got that taken care of.
Life is wonderful and I've never felt so blessed!
Hope everyone is well.
Gotta run...someone is crying my name.
Angela
