Hernia???

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if any you (females) have had an abdominal hernia. I have had a slight burning in my abdomen, level with my belly button (but about 2 inches to the left) for weeks now. It was more like a dull burning sensation, and I originally thought it was a pinched nerve because my lower back was all out of alignment. I went to the chiropractor several times (and am still going) and it seemed to make the burning feeling subside.

HOWEVER....

Tonight I was doing slow and heavy legs. Each time I lifted my bar to put it on my shoulders, the pain was more like a super FIRE in my abdomen - just in that one spot. It was always worse when I lifted the heavy weight. There's no bulge or discoloration or anything.

What do you all think???

;(

Has your belly button gone from an innie to an outie?
My husband had that - it's called an umbilical hernia - needed to be surgically repaired. (He now has his innie back).

I had an inguinal (groin) hernia caused by a benign tumor - had to be surgically repaired as well.

I would definitely have it check out by a doctor. You wouldn't want to rupture anything.

Good luck,
Viki

Reese - I would definitely have it checked out before it gets worse. You may not actually see a "bulge" until it is really bad or you might just never see one - doesn't mean something isn't there are is working on it. My sister had one right in the area you are describing.

Reese,
Definitely have it looked at by a surgeon. I am actually having surgery in a couple of weeks to repair an umbilical hernia that developed with my last pregnancy. It is a small bulge and the hernia will not go back down. Mine is on the right side of my belly button and I am uncomfortable when lifting heavy objects (and have had to stop weight training and ab work until I recover from the surgery).

If it is causing you pain, I would get it looked at right away.

Good luck!

I can almost guarantee it's not a pinched nerve. Usually with pinched nerves, you'll feel pain in your butt down to your leg (if you pinched a nerve in your lower back) or in your shoulders/arm (if you pinched a nerve in your neck).

Yeah, I'd get checked out soon.

Hope you are weel soon,
Shelbygirl

I agree! I had an umbilical hernia when I had my twins and my belly button became an outie. (still is because my surgeon BOMBED!) I would have it looked at by a doctor. Some surgeons are now saying that they do not require surgery.

BTW, I had absolutely no pain with it. It just looked bad and not "right".

Good luck!
