HELP...Vitamins....Have you heard of these???

I’ve been a lurker for some time and decided to finally post. I’m hoping someone will know something about Shaklee vitamins. I went to my doctor yesterday for my yearly checkup and she recommended that I take Shaklee vitamins (I’ve been feeling really tired lately). She said that they are the only company that she has found that has clinical research published on their vitamins that shows that the vitamins are actually getting in your bloodstream. She said they are made from whole foods and are not processed in heat so their enzymes are strong and your body recognizes them as real vitamins. She said my GNC vitamins are good, but they have weak enzymes and that natural only means 15% natural and that they still contain synthetic vitamins, which your body does not know what to do with. She also said that Shaklee has a satisfaction money-back guarantee, so I’m thinking I might as well try them.
Anyway, my questions are:
Has anyone tried Shaklee vitamins? (She recommended Vita-Lea (I guess it is a multi-vitamin)
Did you notice a difference?
Are they worth the money?
Any info would be great. Thanks!

Hi Rose!
I’m fairly new to the boards myself! Hopefully I will have some information that will help you out. I went on Shaklee’s Basics program 4 months ago, (which is a multivitamin (Vita-Lea), C, B, & E), and all I can say is WOW, what a difference! After 3 days I had so much more energy! These vitamins really do get in your blood stream and you will feel a difference. I was also on the Energizing Soy Protein, which is great! (It actually tastes great too!) I don’t think I was getting enough protein either, so this really helped my energy level. I am back to my pre-baby energy again and I give these vitamins all the credit. So the answers to your questions are:
Yes I’ve tried them
Yes I felt a difference
And YES they are worth the money

I fell so in love with these vitamins that I started distributing them. I don’t know if she gave you a person to get these vitamins from or not, but if she didn’t, you can always email me for more info ([email protected]) or you can buy them online at www.shaklee.net/robin_walker . The wonderful thing is that they are delivered to your door 3-4 days after you order! I love that!

Depending on how active you are, you may want to try Shaklee’s Physique Maximizer Supplement also. This helps speed the recovery and repair to muscle tissue (It helps prevent muscle soreness). This is really great if you know you pushed yourself too hard and you don’t want to be sore the next day.

I hope this helped. If you have any more questions, go ahead and email me personally or you can write on this thread and I’ll keep checking it!

Thank you for the fast response robin4health! I’ll go and check out the website now. I think I will give them a try…..with a money back guarantee, I guess I have nothing to lose (except my tiredness!) Thanks again.

I checked out the website. I clicked on the ABOUT ME tab and read more about your story. You look like a sweetheart and your daughter is adorable. Anyway, I’m not too thrilled about the whole membership thing. Do I have to do that?

No you do not have to become a member to order. You will save 15% on every item every time you order though if you do become a member. They also ship you a welcome package that has free product samples in it, a product catalog, and a video about the company. In my first order, I actually got quite a few items, so saving 15% on my items paid for the membership, so for me it was worth it. Let me know if you have anymore questions/concerns.

OK, I did it. I became a member and I ordered something called the essential foundation which has the multivitamin (Vita-Lea), B, C, E and it comes with a container of energizing soy protein (I got chocolate of course!). I was just going to get the multi-vitamin, but I decided to get more. I also got a container of their Pysique workout maximizer supplement. I think that will be great when I decide to go on my day-long bike trips. I think I was more free to spend this morning than usual. I think the whole money-back guarantee made me feel more free to spend knowing that after a month, if I don't notice a difference, I get all my money back.

OK. I don't know why this thread finally made me join as a member, but it did. I've been reading posts for about a month now, and after reading this thread, I wanted to join in. I thought I would put my two-cents in. I have been on Shaklee vitamins for about a year now and I would have to agree with Robin that they are great. Rose, you will not regret spending the money. What I have learned is that if you get cheap vitamins, the quality is cheap also. I was excited to learn that Gary Hall (the olympic swimmer) is on Shaklee vitamins also. I found an interesting article that I will put in this post. It is kindof long, but I thought it fit in with this thread. My theory is if olympians are on this, I want to be on this too!

GARY HALL, JR.'S GOLDEN DREAMS COME TRUE IN ATHENS

Shaklee-Sponsored Swimmer Wins the 50-Meter Freestyle

Pleasanton, California, August 21, 2004 - Team USA's Gary Hall, Jr. successfully defended his title by winning the 50-meter freestyle competition with a time of 21.93 seconds. He is history's fastest swimmer in organized competition worldwide as well as a 10-time medalist, including five Gold. Hall and his father Gary Hall, Sr., now represent the first father and son duo to each compete and medal in three consecutive Games.

To gear up for the intense competition in Athens, Hall and other members of the elite swim team he co-founded, The Race Club, have been using Shaklee vitamins and nutrition supplements under the nutritional guidance of Shaklee's health sciences experts in order to help to maximize each athlete's competitive edge. The Race Club chose Shaklee nutritional supplements because of their need for safe, clinically proven products that pass competition guidelines for purity.

"Today's competition shows that the right training and nutrition can make the difference between Silver and Gold, and Shaklee's products definitely deliver" said Hall. At age 29, Hall has overcome big challenges since he first swam at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. That he is still swimming is a crowning achievement in its own right. In 1999, Hall was diagnosed with Type I diabetes, a disease in which the body fails to produce the insulin that is needed to deliver sugar to the cells.

Warned by some doctors to quit the sport, Hall instead monitors his blood glucose level by pricking his finger 10 times a day - in between his rigorous workouts and swims - and will continue to do so for the rest of his life. Among his many responsibilities, Hall is actively involved in the diabetes community as an educator and supporter. "We are so very proud of Gary and of what he has accomplished in Athens," said Roger Barnett, Chairman and CEO of Shaklee Corporation. "The entire Shaklee family congratulates him on his entire history of remarkable achievements."

I'm so glad you guys reminded me about Shaklee.

A long time ago, a friend of mine got me on a Shaklee program and I really have to say that I found a HUGE difference! I was not as big into working out as I am now but I was a new mother then and the difference in my energy level was incredible. I looked forward to adding the chocolate protein powder in my milk every morning - it was delicious! I know I was taking Vita-Lea but I can't remember what else I was taking.

In fact, I don't know why I quit. But I'm glad to know there is a distributor among us and I plan on paying a visit to your website, Robin!

This forum is so helpful!

Angie

Angie, I'm so glad they made a difference for you. I started on them after my daughter was about 6 months old. I felt like I never recovered from child-birth and she had sucked all my nutrients from my body and left me with nothing! She came out beautiful and healthy and she left me wiped out! Anyway, they truly have made a difference in my health and the entire health of my family. They have helped my mother with her arthritis. It was getting so bad that she had a hard time walking up the stairs. She was on a glucosamine for a couple of months and really didn't notice a difference and I told her to try Shaklee's joint health complex which has glucosime in it, but also contains cat's claw extract (an herb) which I guess really helps with the pain and enhances joint mobility by supporting joint lubrication. Anyway, she was on this for 1 week and noticed a difference. I love being able to help people feel and be healthier, especially when it is your own mother!

Robin -

Do you know the difference between a GNC or health food store brand of multivitamin and Shaklee's. I can't quite remember what my doctor told me. It was something about weak enzymes and not all 100% natural. Do you know anything more on this? I want to talk to my friend tonight about the difference in vitamins, and I was hoping you would know the difference. Thanks!

Robin,

I visited your website. I did not find the Basic program you mentioned. Could you let me know how this program work? What type of supplements do I need to buy?

I am 38, healthy, a little bit over weight from my 2nd baby, eating rather clean except not taking enough protein since I don't like any meat and am not too much interested in dairy. What I need is focus on protein, calcium and maybe some vitamins to get energy going...Could you give me some recommendation?

Thanks

Oh my! I used to take Shaklee, but, for whatever reason, I fell off the bandwagon. This post is probably the boost I need to get back on. I love the vitamins - honestly, I could actually FEEL the difference within a week. The liquid kind was my sister's favorite - she hates pills.

Also, I really like some of the cleaning products.

There used to be a program where you could listen to a bunch of audio tapes (nutritional topics, healthy lifestyle tips, etc.), answer some questions for each one and then you became a distributor. Is this still in effect? I did everything, but then the person I was going through (regional something or other) dropped the ball and I think I didn't get everything done in whatever the time frame was. Or maybe they don't have you do this anymore... I really enjoyed some of the tapes, and wouldn't mind doing that again if they do have it.

Anyway - thanks for the post. I really like hearing that a doctor recommended this brand to someone - I always thought they were better quality. GNC vitamins never gave me the same energetic feeling, but I thought that was in my head.

Sorry, I've been away from my computer for awhile. Here are the answers to your questions.

"could not find the basic program"

If you go to my website (www.shaklee.net/robin_walker) and in the upper right hand corner there is a search box. Type in the word "Basic" and Shaklee's Basics program will come up. One with iron and one without.
OR you can go to the menu on the left and click on NUTRITION. Under that word the words "Essential Foundation" will come up. Click on that. It will then bring you to a page that has the Basics program and the Soy Protein.
OR on my homepage in the bottom left corner you will see MY FAVORITE PICKS, click on that and you will see the Basics program and the soy protein.

To get you started, I would recommend the Basics Program (It comes as a daily strip you take which includes: Multi (Vita-Lea), C, E, and B). I would also recomend the soy protein if you know you are not getting enough protein in your day. That will really give you a lift. The Multi's and the soy protein both have calcium in them, so you will be close to your daily RDA for calcium, just by taking these two things. If you really want to add more calcium to your day, you could take the Super Cal Mag Plus. Here are the item codes also for these products (you can also type these in the search box in the upper right hand corner and find the products that way.)

1) Essential Foundation (Includes the "Basics" vitamin program & the soy protein:
59071 (with Iron & Vanilla soy) or
59072 (with Iron & Chocolate soy) or
59073 (without Iron & Vanilla Soy) or
59074 (without Iron & Chocolate Soy)

2) Just the Basics program (includes multi,C,E,&B)
20206 (with iron)
20204 (without iron)

3) JUst the soy protein
20665 (vanilla)
20670 (cocoa)

4) Super Cal Mag Plus
20657

5) Just Vita-Lea (multi-vitamin/multi-mineral)
20300 (with iron)
20016 (without iron)

GraceNote:

Yes, they still have information on just about everything on CD's and tapes. I have mostly CD's now because that is mostly what people want. I have everything from childrens health and ADHD, to heart disease, women's health, mens health, allergies....the list goes on and on. If you are interested in some CD's, why don't you write me personally at [email protected] and we can exchange some info and I can send some CD's out to you. YES, the CD's are free. You just have to give me your address and what you are interested in listening too, and I'll ship them off to you! If you are still interested in becoming a distributor, email me personally about that too. It sounds like you already have done a lot of the work, and I don't believe there is a time frame, so it sounds like the person you were going through just dropped the ball.

I don't know why I didn't catch this before, but I see you are pregnant. These vitamins are awesome for pregnancies! Along with the Basics and the soy protein, you should add in the Super Cal Mag Plus because you are pregnant (the extra calcium helps with muscle cramping in the legs). Also, get the iron formula. You will need the extra iron. Women on these vitamins during their pregnancies love the energy they have and the B-Complex which comes in the Basic Pack has the folic acid on the outside coating (this is a patented formula) which we all know our babies need!

Here is what I have learned on the difference in vitamins. There are 3 types:

1) Synthetic: Drug Store Variety (Centrum, One-A-Day, etc.)
It is like a plastic lemon, it looks like a lemon, but it is not the real thing.
These are man-made, have no enzymes (which are necessary for the vitamins to be absorbed into our bloodstream), made from inorganic substances, contain artificial colors, flavors & sweeteners, they are imbalanced, have harsh binders and fillers, and many are coated with a shellac coating which is nearly totally resistant to the penetration of stomach fluids.

2) Natural Extracts: Health Food/GNC brand
These are like a plastic lemon on the outside, but filled with juice on the inside.
These contain weak enzymes (which your doctor was talking about), they use chemical and/or heat extraction (destroys the enzymes), contain artificial colors, flavors & sweeteners, natural may only mean 15% natural, imbalanced (mega doses on cheap B vitamins, but skimps on Biotin(this should be 100% too), harsh binders and fillers, and many of these also have a shellac coating

3) Natural, Unaltered: Shaklee Food Supplements
This is like a real, whole lemon
These have strong enzymatic action, cool/no chemical processing, highest quality of raw materials, 63,000 tests done to ensure bioavailability, feeds and improves cell health (natural Vitamin E proven much more bioavailable than synthetic), only company with proven absorption through independent, peer-reviewed, published clinical studies, AND you realy feel a difference when you are on these vitamins!

I hope that helps clear it up for ya!

I know we have talked about the vinegar test a few times on this board, but I would really encourage you to take some vinegar and put your vitamin in it. It should dissolve in 20 minutes (this is as long as it is in your stomach, then it passes into your intestines, which is basic acidity). When I did this test on my Pre-natal vitamin a few months ago (I was still on it because I was still nursing my daughter) it only dissolved 50%! No wonder I felt so crappy! Anyway, I encourage you to take your vitamin and see how much of it is dissolving. I also did this test on my One Source vitamin that I had and it had not even started to dissolve in 20 minutes!

OK, I think I have been staring at the computer too long! Gracenote is pregnant, not you. But you said you were still carring some baby weight from baby #2. Sorry about that! I was getting the two of you confused. I don't know how long ago you had baby #2, but I'll tell you what I noticed. After being on the soy protien and their Basics, I started to lose weight. I'm sure it is because I had so much more energy that I was able to run around the house and play peek-a-boo and I was able to work out seriously again. Before that, the thought of working out would just make me laugh. Anyway, sorry about the confusion.

No problem, Robin. We are all have that time...;-)

I PM you about the recommendation of my knees. Do you have any suggestions? I think I have some tendendis. Regular glocosamine does not work on me. I stopped taking it.

Thanks.

The cleaners are absolutely awesome! They are biodegradable and the are safe for children and pets! The main cleaner that I love is Basic-H (H=household). This was the first fruit/vege wash on the market. You can use this stuff to clean your fruit, wash your windows, clean your floors, and it is safe enough to use on your childrens little faces. It is made out of palm kernal oil and it does a great job at cleaning. It is better than any other cleaner I have ever used. It is also very concentrated. One 16 oz. container of Basic-H when diluted as directed will equal 2,910 bottles of Windex (26 oz.) or 94 bottles of Fantastik (32 oz). As you can see, they go a long, long way.

Shaklee also makes a cleaner called Basic-G (for germicide). This is a cleaner that you would not use everyday, but it is great for kitchens, bathrooms and cleaning the home after a virus/flu bug has been in your home. Once again, this comes very concentrated. One quart of Basic-G when diluted as directed equals 372 bottles of Lysol Antibacterial Cleaner (22 oz.) or 454 bottles of Clorox Disinfectant Spray (18 oz.). You don’t want your kids to drink it, but if they do, it won’t harm them to the same degree like other cleaners would. It also is not flamable, like Lysol is and it does not have any fumes to it.

Shaklee has a whole line of cleaners & laundry detergents (which are hypo-allergenic, free from phospates and nitrates, and great for sensitive kids and babies). After I had tried the cleaners, I decided to give the laundry detergent a try. I found that this detergent (called Liquid-L) actually got Ella’s tough stains out of her clothes. I just put the detergent on the stain, rub it in and the stain comes out! I had been using pre-treaters before, and they did not get the stains out, so I was thrilled to actually see some of her “blow-outs” come out of her clothes! More importantly, Ella’s rosy cheeks went away. Ella had always had rosy cheeks, some days they were rosier than others, but overall, I thought it looked kind-of cute. After washing all her bedding in Liquid-L, a week later I noticed that her rosy cheeks weren’t rosy anymore! I had no idea that she was having a reaction to the detergent I was using (which was a baby detergent).

These cleaners are great to have around when you have children!
