Help/suggestions which weight to use, please?

What weight should I use?

On tricep kickbacks, for example, I can do 7 out of 12 reps with a 6 lb weight with good form. However, if I use a 5 lb weight I can do 12 reps in good form, but don't get to exhaustion.
What should I do?

Thanks everyone, in advance, for your valuable input.

i am under the impression that if you go lighter, just go longer until exhaustion., as long as form doesn't suffer. I am definitely NOT Cathe, just my opinion!

have a great day! }(

I personally would use the 6lb weight to do as many reps as you can and then switch down to the 5 pounders to complete the set.

I agree with Namita here. It's the only way you'll reach exhaustion without your workout taking half the day to complete.

Hi RhiannonW,

If you want a good workout for the triceps, go for exhaustion, as that is what really counts not how many reps you can do, you do want to reach that 12 one day, but you want to do it with whatever muscle your working as it reaches exhaustion not, you can stand there and do 5, 10, 50 more, after you just did a set with Cathe. As when you hit exhaustion, your muscle says no more, and then send back to the brain, hey I need some more help. And then your brain checks the muscle and realizes you wore it out, so it will then tell the body to start making some muscle fibes for that muscle. So it will be strong and sooner or later you can add up a rep, before you hit exhaustion, then another and another, until you reach 12. But if you want some good muscle fiber as well as really giving the muscle the best workout with the most benifit you really do need to work it to exhaustion.
