I have a weird predicament, but it's making me a little worried. I am giving a lot of detail so you can see that this is well different than my body usually is, so sorry in advance for writing so much.
Let me start by saying that I've been mostly in maintenance phase for after losing about 80 pounds in 1999. I've fluctated a bit here and there around injuries and life itself, but for the most part, I'm about the same since the initial loss. About six months ago, for an unkown reason, my back started really hurting and I was trying to do what I could for workouts but definitely wasn't at my norm. I had to stop teaching (step and weights) and took some time out. So, naturally, I gained a few pounds (5) and I saw differences in my body. Well, since the new years, I've been fighting to get rid of them and I am just having the hardest time. My back is healthy and I am able to work out mostly without modification.
Normally when I try to drop weight, I try to be very good during the week with no treats (sweets, alcohol, etc.) and stick to my workout schedule. On weekends, I usually have a night out and normally, even in weight loss mode, that is fine and does't really have a negative effect for more than a day. I tighten up the following day nd by the next, I am back to where I was. But not anymore...
Ove rteh past four weekends, I go out and have 2 or 3 drinks (in a 6 - 8 hour period with dinner in my belly) and the next day I am god awful sick and 5 - 7 pounds overweight. It takes DAYS to get rid of that water weight and it really is felt on my body (ie clothes are tight, etc.) I am not a scale freak (I don't care of the number but whether or not I am higher or lower) but the fact is that my scale is matching my clothing, so there is some truth to it.
Last week my workouts were "on" and my eating was pretty good. I was still that five pounds up that I need to lose from the injury but I felt good and when I went to put on my black pants, they felt loooser than the last time. I even tried on a dress as a measuere and it felt good! We went out and I had two drinks. The following day, I was SIX pounds heavier and sick as though I had had 20 drinks. It is now three days later, I;ve flushed myself out with water, worked out, etc., and I am still five whole pounds up, not to mention that the ddress I tried on no longer fits and my pantyhose are choking me right now.
I have decided to go alcohol free for a month and tighten up but still, I am worried that this is indicative of something being wrong. I just cannot pass that line on the scale and when I do, it;s b/c I cut way down to a point that is probably too low. My body's been the same for 10+ years and now it's different. I have a doc visit on Friday but wanted to see if anyone here had thoughts too.
I feel gross.
