Help, I sprained my ankle

Hello All,
I am going out of my mind! I tripped over the vacuum yesterday and sprained my ankle. It is swollen but not bruised and I'm freaking out over the fact that I may not be able to workout for a while. I have been following Cathe's Feb rotation to the tee and have felt like I was actually starting to see results. Today is KPC and was wondering if I should take lots of advil and try it anyway.Just kidding. But seriously, has anyone else had an ankle sprain and how long does it take to recover from it? I need cardio everyday in order
to offset my lack of Thyroid gland. Please Help!!

Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

I sprained mine pretty badly about 10-12 years ago. I was on crutches for the first 2-3 days. I seem to remember that it took about 6-8 weeks for it to get well enough to start doing cardio on it again.

Seriously, ice it, elevate it and stay off it for a few days, especially since it's swollen. I would see a doc, if you can. She/he could assess how serious it is and how long you should avoid Cathe type cardio.

Hope it gets better soon. :)

Hi, Carolyn:

I am still recovering from a fall at the beginning of Feb. I ignored the pain at first and continued with my X rotation - stupid girl! - and really messed it up much worse. I know it's hard, but the only thing that has worked for me is massive ibuprofen and no impact. I've been focusing on U/B and core only, and have only recently added back in L/B barre work using Fluidity and other workouts of that ilk. It's still really, really tender, though. I think you are looking at several weeks of modified work. Sorry. I *know* it s*cks!

Hi Carolyn,

I know what you're going through. Last year I sprained my ankle doing a step move. It was bruised (purple and green) and swollen. I had just signed up for a fitness boot camp that was due to start in a month. I took ibuprofen religious and stayed off it as much as possible. I believe I took a day off of work after I did it and then took the following Friday off so I could have 3 whole days without putting pressure on it. Everyone told me it was broken but since I'm not big on going to the doc, I just listen to my body and took it easy. I'm happy to report that it wasn't broken and that I was able to start my boot camp session on time.

I know that it's frustrating to have to sit it out when you feel that you are accomplishing so much but you will come back stronger and more motivated once your ankle is healed.

i totally know how you feel!! last night i sprained my ankle..lol just got back from the dr. I was doing a step move and fell. I am pissed because i cant imagine not working out. I am out of work for the week and cant work out. But, i am planning on doing upper and core work so that i can still feel like i am acomplishing something. Get better soon!! i would just stay off of it elevate and ice. If you have a ace bandage or a air cast that would be good
