Help finding gift for 2 year old newphew

Hi! I am really hoping to get some feedback on the following possibilities for gifts for my two year old nephew. I really am not sure what's appropriate for that age, but I'd like to get something either educational, or artistic, etc., nothing gimmicky or noisy. I'd like to spend about $50 altogether:

I loved dinosaurs (still do):

I've always thought blocks were very cool and I love wooden toys:

Art stuff:

If you have any other suggestions, that would be awesome. I live in Canada, though, so not every US website will ship here.

I can't wait until he's older and I can give him really cool toys!

Hey,
I couldn't open any of your web sites... Wonder if it's a Canada/US thing. Odd... anyway... I have a 2 year old boy (and two other boys that once upon a time were 2), and I'll just let you know what they have liked...

My 2 year old now is really into Thomas the Tank Engine. You could get him a Thomas train and a circle track and maybe a Thomas movie to go with it.

Also if you get blocks, go for the mega blocks. They are like Legos, but much bigger and easier for their little fingers. Here's a great product (Hope you can see it): http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2334221

Also, my little one LOVES books. He likes to be read to and to read the books (or his own version of them) back to me. Board books are best for this age because they can't rip them. Some of my favorites for this age are: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Mrs. Wishy Washy, Mr. Wishy Washy, Goodnight Moon and Llama Llama Red Pajama (I could keep going on and on...).

They also love art at this age... You can get a big huge art pad and crayons... I like the chubby crayons for this age. They don't break quite as easily. And magna doodles are GREAT!! Just make sure you don't get one with small magnets in it. It's super dangerous for a child to swallow a magnet. Since your gift budget is pretty big, you could give the child an entire bag filled with art goodies. (I'd steer clear from markers, paint and playdoh... MESSY!!!)

Hope this helped!!

Stick with something "parent-friendly."

What I mean is, if the parent isn't into letting their kids get messy with arts and crafts or playdoh, etc., your gift will go unopened. I for one am okay with that stuff but know lots of parents who aren't.

Also - two-year-olds have a habit of dumping stuff so things with a lot pieces will be strewn all over the floor and mom is usually the one stuck cleaning it all up.

I really appreciate when someone asks me for specific ideas for my child. That way they will get a gift they want plus the parent is okay with the present as well.

Have fun shopping!

That's weird- I think it's a Cathe issue. I edited the post to try to make the links work, and I think they work now.

That is very generous of you! I haven't met a 2yo boy who doesn't love Thomas the Tank Engine. All my boys did at that age (including my now 2yo). They used to sell a set in the shape of an 8 that came with three train cars. The parents wouldn't feel pressured to add on to the set, and it would be a good starter set if they want to add on.

I agree that board books are great too, and also wooden puzzles and blocks.

Have fun shopping for him! He is lucky to have such a generous aunt! :)

Okay, so I ended up getting Artist in the Tub, Bugs in the Tub and Boats in the Tub. Maybe it's been a while since I had a bath...

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and assistance!
