HELP -- Engagement Photos

DF and I are going to be shooting our engagement photos sometime in the next week or two. My question is.... What should we wear? My son will also be joining us for some of the pictures, so all three of us need to "match" somewhat.

We will be going to a local arboretum where there are some beautiful woods, a bridge, etc. so that will be the backdrop.

I want the pictures to look good any time of year, so I don't really want to wear Christmas-y clothing (red and green).

Thanks in advance!

We had the same kind of background, same time of year.
We went with simple black sweaters (me in a turtleneck and him in a crew neck) and jeans.

They look relaxed, and the black is very complimentary to the leafy, outdoorsy background.

Nancy,
They're usually taken and then put in the newspaper to announce someone's engagement. And, yes, then put in an album I'm sure. :)

I did this one year ago and our photos turned out EXCELLENT! In fact, our picture is posted on the photographer's website. Here's the link:

We are the couple at the bottom of the second column (he's wearing a red top, I'm wearing an orange top).

The photographer suggested using solid colors. You don't necessarily want to be "matchy-matchy, but you and your fiancee should wear colors from the same color family.

I hope your pictures turn out GREAT!

My DH and I had our engagement photos done in a arboretum/garden type place too. We both wore khaki-colored pants and light blue shirts. It probably doesn't matter what colors you choose, but one thing our photographer told us is that solid colors are best, rather than prints. That way, it won't take away from your faces or the backdrop. Simple is best. :)

>Cathy - just wanted to butt in here to say you and your DF
>look GORGEOUS:)

I agree!

And I like the idea of not necessarily matching exactly but wearing the same color family. Solids definitely look best.

Thanks, Allison. It never would have occurred to me that it was for the newspaper. Around here, only the very high status folk do engagement announcements. Do most people do this in other parts of the country? Just curious.
