Help and advice for my daughters' graduation

Norma48

Cathlete
She is 23 and single, she's graduating from college, single, she is the oldest and I have no experience over this, someone over there? what can I do for her, besides going to her graduation?,,, how you celebrate it? it is a big deal for me but I have no clue what to do? something that is not going to empty my wallet, ideas please!!! thanks!!!

I suggest inviting friends and relatives over for a little party. If you have a backyard, a barbecue would be nice. Have a cake that says "Congratulations Graduate" on it in her favorite flavor.

Oh, and don't forget to buy her a gift that she can use on job interviews, like a pearl necklace (freshwater pearls are lovely and low-priced) or pearl earrings or a professional-looking shoulder bag or something. ;)

Oooh, I love the idea of pearls or a bag (I am thinking Coach), or even better, a really classy leather briefcase. I am not sure what her career goals are, though, so that might not be appropriate, so perhaps you should be thinking along the lines of what would help her get started on the path to success? A great suit (pair it with a day of shopping in the city with mom, how fun!)?

Good luck & congratulations to your daughter!
Marie

PS: Nancy, if I get another degree, will you buy me the bag?? :7

A COACH bag Marie? I'll tell you what I'll do: if anyone from your family asks for my advice, I'll suggest that they get it for you, okay? }(

I agree with Nancy that a classy gift she can keep forever would be much appreciated. I am not sure what your budget it, but treating her to a weekend getaway at a spa (if she's into that) would also be nice. If you live in NYC, how about Atlantic City?

By the way Norma, you look absolutely fantastic!

I have absolutely no idea Norma if you are interested in our suggestion of a shoulder bag, but in case you are, I would just put in one vote against leather. Leather is beautiful, but I find it to be weighty for a large bag. I prefer a microfiber fabric that is light, durable and weather-proof. It also doesn't hurt that the microfiber bags tend to be a lot less expensive than leather. :)

My DD asked for a Longchamp bag for a gift recently and uses hers constantly. I had her, lightweight but very strong and good looking bag, monogrammed. It can be used for her lap top, a carry on, or as a day bag when she has a very long day and doesn't get home until late.
