In answer to your question about heel spurs and having had them and cured, here are my two cents:
When walking with a normal step, the plantar fascia ligament stretches as the foot strikes the ground. When walking with an abnormal step, the plantar fascia ligament can stretch irregularly, become stressed, and develop small tears. These small tears can cause the ligament to become inflamed (plantar fasciitis).
Symptoms of plantar fasciitis is heel pain when taking the first steps after getting out of bed or when taking the first steps after sitting for a long period of time.
I had a plantar fasciotomy - meaning two incisions on either side of the foot, laprascope in one side, laser instrument on the other - zip, zip and the spur (which in laymens terms is calcified fluid released from the torn ligament)is zapped away. I've not had any further pain in my heel since - it's been about 12 years or so.
