Heavy weights on the new DVD's same intensity as P90X

Right now I'm finishing up a round of P90X and I'm just wondering, does the heavy lifting on her new DVD's have the same intensity as the P90X DVD's? Also, I know it's very early but is anyone seeing any muscular changes yet? I've only done the cardio portions so far, I love the variety and the shorter time. Get in and get out!

For me, P90X was total heavy lifting since I did a Classic Rotation. The 4DS, while some is heavy lifting, it is still endurance too. The 4DS is challenging and is intense but they're just different workouts. The different rep counts are what keeps Cathe challenging whereas in P90X, you choose your own and go at your own pace. I like that Cathe isn't following the beat like in her other workouts. I didn't do band work in the X whereas with Cathe I do and the band definitely gives a good burn. The X has pullups/chinups whereas Cathe doesn't and they are intense - if I do too much of one exercise it might wipe me out for pullups/chinups or vice versa if I try and do pullups/chinups, my other exercises might suffer. I think a lot of Tony's exercises are more challenging - like one-arm pushups and clapping or plyo pushups. The workouts in Phase 2 were much harder for me than the ones in Phase 1. Tony's legwork was less intense and non-weighted whereas Cathe's is weighted. It was nice not to do any barbell squats with the X. The X really took a lot out of me through Phase 1 where I was still feeling the effects at work. After saying all this and thinking back, P90X was more intense for me. 90 days was a long time for one rotation but was well worth it and I am looking forward to doing it again (after I get thru Cathe, Amy and Tracey first).

I'm only in my first week of the 4DS split rotation so it's too early to tell but I will post measurements when I'm done.

I'm glad you posted your review, Marcy!! I'm finishing up round 2 of the X and have done Cathe's new 4DS but only the cardio (kickbox, bootcamp, and HIS so far..). I am going to take a 2 week break from the X after I finish this round (since Thanksgiving is coming!) so I might try out her heavy weights to see how it compares. So far nothing has worked my upper body like Tony! ;-) When are you going to do another round of the X, after the New Year?? (or are you waiting for P90X+???)

Hi Jess!

Between Cathe, Amy and Tracey, my cabinets are overflowing with all these new workouts and I really would like to try them all for a month's rotation before I get back to the X (and yes, I'm looking forward to the X+ workouts). So it will probably be February or March before I get to another round of the X. And now that Cathe's coming out with STS, it's all getting a little overwhelming. It sounds like P90X in a way but not exactly.

I agree Tony really shaped up my upper body nicely (did great things for the back fat). I really miss doing chinups and pullups. I tried to incorporate them into Cathe's routines (I'd usually skip a 3rd set of hers) but I just didn't have the same energy for them as when I did them in the X.

Please post your results after you're done with this round. You look fabulous already but I'm sure this round will make you look even better.

I know, I've been adding in Cathe's new 4DS for doubles to try them out! I just checked out her blog w/ the STS workouts, looks awesome!

Yep, Tony knows how to work the back well!! I never thought I'd have the strength to do pullups but now I can crank 'em out!!

I'll make sure to post pics, I've seen tremendous changes in my 2nd round and am REALLY happy about it!! My day 90 is next week!! And thank you, you're so sweet!

Here was my day 60 back shot.

Hello, I wanted to drop a few lines since I have been away for a couple of months. I have also been doing P90X with my husband and haven't been able to come over as often. I also wanted to stay really focus while doing the X but I AM DYING to do Cathe's new DVD's. What's the STS? I have missed so much of Cathe's new stuff.

I have made great accomplishments with the X and am thinking that I didn't do more when I was doing Cathe because:

1. I needed to lean out my diet a little more
2. I didn't take any supplements
3. I needed to add more weight to my workouts.

Now I have an added view of weight lifting and reps and diet and will be more prepared to do Cathe and get more bulk while doing her weight work.

Hey, Jess!!! You caught me!!!! ;-)

Yep, I just went over there and I am super excited about it!!!! Sound fantastic!!! I may hold off on the 4Day Split and buy that one instead!!! We'll see!!!

Mommy and Cake Baker,

Congratulations on your accomplishments with the X! Diet definitely helps. With a clean diet, all your hard work shows through. I haven't taken any supplements (other than a multivitamin) nor do I intend to but I need to start tightening up my diet. My DH keeps saying I looked better last year and now I'm just starting to think that was when I was keeping a food journal and logging every morsel I put in my mouth. I have found that heavy lifting is what works best for me and will keep doing that for the most part. After a 2-3 months, I usually add in some endurance workouts, but I really hate them.

Keep up the good work. Cathe's workouts became so much easier for me after the X.

Hello, Marcy.

I was doing really good with Cathe's workouts but wanted to try something different for a while.

Thanks to Cathe, I had lost 25 lbs that had stuck around with me after the birth of my 2nd child. Thanks to all those aerobic and step workouts, I drop the pounds and had fun doing it. I was looking for a different kind of weight workout as well, and while waiting for some DVDs from Cathe, I decided to give the X a try. My husband had bought it already, so I said, what the heck, lets try it.

My diet was good, I do the SouthBeach Diet, which I love, but I needed to eliminate a few things and its helped a lot. If it wasn't because of this diet am currently on, I would have found the diet from BeachBody to be hard to follow. But thank goodness, it is not very different from SouthBeach Diet.

Thanks again, and look foward to trying out Cathe's new DVDs.

Just popping in to tell Miss Jess, "Your calves are incredible girl!" Wow, I thought I had the calves covered until I saw yours. Awesome.
Your back, double biceps pose ain't too shabby either!

Well, thank you Miss Tneah!! I know, I get comments on the calves all of the time. My one complaint is finding jeans that fit right, they always have to be the boot cut. Those crazy straight legged jeans that were popular for a while just don't cut it!! ;-) Thanks to P90X for the back & double biceps! :)
