Hello, Cathe! I'm sure you've been asked this many, many times before, but I'm relatively new to the forum (although I've been using your videos for some time now and really enjoy them). My question is (and I know there are a lot of "it depends on . . . ." factors, but as a general rule), at what intensity should I be working out if my goals are to lean out a bit and increase my aerobic capacity? I'm already pretty fit, and I don't have much weight to lose, if any, but I would like to lose a little flab from my problem areas of the lower belly and thighs.
You read so many varying opinions. Everything from "low, low, LOW for longer periods" to "moderate is best" to "high intensity interval training is the ONLY way to go." It gets confusing! I find that when I do a lot of your cardio workouts, I average about 80-85% with spikes up to around 90% and some dips down into the 70%-range. This feels good to me. As long as I get some "down time" here and there, I like working out at that intensity. I recently completed a rotation that called for a lot of cardio work in the 70-75% range, and honestly, I didn't even feel like I was working out. I don't mind an occasional day of that lower intensity, but for the most part 80-85% feels good to me. I also enjoy occasional shorter high intensity workouts. You're Interval Max and Maximum Intensity Cardio really get me!
TIA, Cathe! I'm looking forward to your new videos! They look awesome, and I'm sure they will be the same high quality videos of fun, effective workouts with superb instruction as you are known for putting out.
