heart rate monitor

Hi, ladies! Anyone else using a heart rate monitor during Cathe workouts? Reason for asking: I've lost fifty pounds over the past eight months thanks to Cathe, healthy diet, and a pre-breakfast walk every day. I used to be hypertensive and was on blood pressure meds, but the bp has been testing low, so my doctor gave me a hearty congrats and tapered me off the meds. I've had them out of my system for about a week now, and needless to say I'm getting far different readings on the heart rate monitor when I'm doing cardio. Both my average heart rate and the maximum I hit during a workout have jumped by about 20 bpm. So my question is, what sort of readings do you get on, say, Kick Max or Low Max? How many calories are you burning on those? I did KM yesterday and burned 680 cals, almost 200 more than was typical for me while I was on the meds. My average hr was 153 or so, and my max was 180. Sorry this turned out so wordy; thanks for your input!

I haven't done Kick Max or Low Max for awhile, but I would say your numbers sound in range. On higher cardio I am usually averaging in the 140s, with a max of around 175-178. I do not burn near the calories you do, though.......( I am a small person: 4"11") I can get close to 400 if I really, really push it.

Your numbers will probably drop a bit once your body has acclimated to being off the meds. That BP med may have slowed your heart rate some...I dunno, depends on which ones they were.

Mucho congratulations on your weight loss and getting off the meds!! That is a fantastic accomplishment!

Thanks for your reply, Julie! I've been slightly concerned about my numbers, but you've set my mind at ease. I'm 5'6", so not surprising I get a higher burn than you. I'm always envious of my six-foot, 180-lb husband after a bike ride. He's always burned twice as many calories as me, lucky beast. Thanks again!
