Heart rate count (on high side)

Hi Cathe, how are you?
I was hoping to get your expert opinion on this - it seems that every time when doing a more powerful work out, when it's time to do the heart rate check (10 second count), I always get around 30 beats (in 10 sec.) I noticed on charts (on Powermax & at the gym), that for advanced, the highest is 28 beats in 10 sec. I've been doing cardio for a few years, and I'm not sure if I'm making progress because of this fact, that my heart rate is so high! I'm 31 years old, have no health problems, and feel fine during the workouts. I've read that if the heart rate is too high, that you're 'beyond' the fat burning stage. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

PS - I was admiring your picture - you look so great, and Eric is SO cute - wishing you all the best!

Hi Susan-lynn! Because counting beats is not 100% accurate I don't recommend that method. Try simply using the perceived exertion test. You should strive to feel comfortably winded while working out. A feeling where you can continue to go on with a challenge but not to the point of gasping for air.
