Kathy,

It is my neighborhood book club, so we just sent out an introductory flyer with the book listed and asked for people to RSVP. We established monthly meetings, of books no longer than 350 pages. Can be fiction or nonfiction. At the meeting, the person who chose the book presents a background of the author, reads what the critics said and gives an opening question. The discussion then takes a life of its own. The person who hosts the meeting picks the next book. This way you are not worried about doing all the research AND doing all the food, and cleaning your house, at the same time. Makes it much easier. Some women put out full dinners, some women just do wine and popcorn. Most are somewhere in between. We have 15 members this year, tonight there are 11 coming (3 are sick). That has worked out to be a good number. I wish some of our members would choose more challenging books, but then again, we've read some very good ones too. This month was a light book, "Blackbird House" by Alice Hoffman. I am choosing a nonfiction - "Miracle in Philadelphia", it is about the constitutional convention.

Hope this helps.

Shopgirl :)
