Health Update

Finally an answer, or if nothing else, some hope.

After almost a year onwards of constant peeing (every 20 minutes) i went to see a natural doctor. Took pee and blood tests. I have a diet very high in acid, meat, eggs, dairy, meat, etc... yet i have a bloody and urine reading of 8.9 (alkaline!). This is a mystery. She cannot explain it but is sure that is one of the reasons why i'm peeing so much. I also crave massive amounts of sugar, which i'm told is because i have a massive overgrowth of yeast in my system. BUPA and private doctors found nothing out, she, however, asked the right questions and came up with some answers. This isn't the end of the battle, but its a start and at least something has been found. I'm pissed at all the money and time i wasted on doctors that didn't even think to check my urine level. It really upsets me as i've been suffering with this for a year now...Sigh.

Wayne ... are you serious??? All those doctors and they never did a simple dip the stick in the urine test???? You can even buy those strips (at least in the USA you can) and do that at home! I don't find it unusual you have urine which is very alkaline if you eat a lot of meat. It has to do with the breakdown products of protein. What concerns me is you mention blood. If you have blood in your urine, that's a problem. She can't explain this??? I hope she sends you to a urologist. None of this makes any sense to me. It's not normal to have blood in your urine. I know you've seen a lot of doctors, but I find it difficult to believe if you've seen a urologist they didn't do a urine test. Did they ever collect your urine and send it to a lab? I hope this gets resolved for you. It sounds very frustrating.

Sorry, the blood thing is messed up. I mean i have a very high alkaline system. There is no blood in my urine. I am very upset that 8 doctos and 2 urologist never did a dip stick test. It is upsetting that this might be one of the resons for my frequent peeing. My system is very alkaline and we/i don't know why as i eat so much acid based food. It is strange. The doctor (the good one) could find no sign of infection in my urine (i've been tested 5 times now for infection). So at the moment were correcting my pH to try and lower it to 5 or just above. I'm taking medicine (herbal) from her and ascorbic acid (vit c) powder to get a more acid condition. It is strange and i cannot begin to wonder why i'm so alkaline.

Hi Wayne!! I've been following your story for the past year and knew how upset this was to you but I just want to say I am so happy that your almost on the road for a "cure" of your problems. Keep us posted.

I can't believe they never did a dip stick test? Has anyone ever done a urine culture for you? That should be mandatory. I"ve been having problems with frequent fevers and the first thing my doctor did was a dip stick test and then a urine culture....and he repeated both twice! That's crazy! I hope this new dr. finds out what's wrong - it must be driving you nuts having to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes.

Take care!

They have new drugs that help people with frequent urination. Basically what they do is make you retain water and work on the muscle spasms of the bladder. Maybe something like this would help you.

I also think it would be a good idea to have a endoscope test. They go in through the penis with a scope and take a look at the bladder.

I hope you find the cause very soon.

WHEW! Wayne, I'm glad to hear there's no blood. As for the alkaline urine, it might have to do with the breakdown products of protein. You're probably in a state of ketosis, which basically is the state you want to stay in while doing low carb diets like Atkins. The problem with being in it long term is it can stress your kidneys, especially if you already have kidney disease. I don't know if you have any organic problems with your kidneys - only a physician could diagnose that. I'm only throwing things out there as "possibles". If the meds work and you can get your urine to a pH of 5.0 or even 6.0, it might do the trick. I certainly hope this works for you! Keep us posted!!

I'm not in a state of ketosis. As i consume far too much suger (carbs) due to high sugar cravings. But that thought did cross my mind too.

Sigh.

Have been consuming stuff to make me more acidic, but at first thing this morning i'm still 7.9 :(

That was just a thought I had Wayne about the ketosis. It might take time to correct this. Hang in there, okay?

Wayne,

I too have been following your story and wished I knew something that could help.

I DO know about doctors and wasting money. Had a daughter with seizures and her medicines made her have ear and urinary tract infections twice EVERY month as well as bed-wetting for 4 years. All the doctors (went to five or six and one was a SPECIAlIST at Barnes Childrens in St. Louis) said that we weren't giving her the right nutrition, wrong detergents, not enough liquids especially Cranberry, etc. Basically our fault. DH and I had a few fights over all this.

Come to find out when they gradually started taking her off the medications (seizures had stopped:D ) all her infections abruptly stopped. I had even suggested NUMEROUS times that it was the medication causing all the infections/wetting. No more mediciation - no more infections/wetting!!

Some doctors are AWESOME - and some just don't listen because they think they know everything, but they don't.

It sounds like this one is on the ball and I dearly hope this puts an end to your situation. GOOD LUCK!!

Sami, Carol, and everyone else, thank you so much for your kind words. They mean so much. I'm trying like hard to correct my alkaline balance, but its taking time. I'm still very blue (alkaline colour!).

Your comments and words are so needed and i thank you all.

Wayen.

Wayne,

Glad to hear someone found SOMETHING!!! Now you have hope for fixing this annoyance AND comfort knowing that it isn't "all in your head"! Good luck!

I've been following your story as well.

I just wanted to comment that in a healthy state, a person's urine will be alkaline.

I don't know exactly what your doctors tested, but if they sent your urine to the lab, a formal urinalysis is a more complete version of a simple dipstick.

Just be wary of the yeast diagnosis.

My two cents.

Good Luck!

Why wary of the yeast diagnosis? I was on antibiotics for just over two months. So most of, if not all of, my bacteria (good and bad) must have been killed off. Do you have any thoughts. To be honest with you, even getting my urine down i don't think it will cure it. I think that i have an infection that cannot be found and that is what is causing this frequent urination. I get a stop start flow and that could be prostatitis? (sorry, spelt wrong). Luckily she has trained in that for 11 years so that is the next step to be properly checked for that (which by the way i was, by the urologist) but the wrong test was carried out!
