Health eating concerns at Dunkin Donuts???????

I was standing in line at the DD and a long line it was. This has happened before which is why I am writing this. There are a few larger ladies at the counter actually asking these questions to the dd staff....

Which donuts have the most amount of vitamins?
What fruity shake drinks have the best anti oxidents?
What about the cream donuts? Is there any nutritional value to them?

Dd has a chart apparently that has the answers to some of these questions.

Today I was in line and another woman who seemed to be a regular there was asking about the health benefits of different jelly donuts. She went over the contents of a fruity drink and then asked for her latte with extra helpings and left.

I say this - if health is a concern - vitamin intake - Dunkin Donuts is not the place to eat. Go to your grocer and buy fresh veggies and KNOW for a fact you eating something good.

I was buying a coffee at dd today. I did not ask about calories because I know that is a pointless question.

That is the truth. If you tell them there is a hint of calcium in their cream donut it will justify eating a dozen. I was really suprised to hear anyone ask about vitamins in a donut and follow it by thinking - no wonder so many Americans are unhealthy (in the papers today). If you convince yourself that exersize is too time consuming and DD has nutritional donuts - well - what can I say???

That is just outrageous! Do ya think they were trying to justify being there? If they found a donut with vitamins they could tell themselves it was OK? Big time denial here. I'd laugh if it weren't so sad.

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Mark Twain ;-)

Well that must have been a strange sight! If some new study comes out that says jelly donuts have great health benefits, I'm all for it. I don't see that happening, though.

Vitamins? Nutritional Value? Antioxidants? Health benefits?

They are definitely in the wrong place.

That is funny, but also rather tragic (that they think there IS any nutritional value to junk food).

I'm so glad I wasn't there...I would have said something! I'd laugh too, but it would hurt cuz I could laugh myself to death with this one!!!!! Good gosh!!!! What a joke? Nutritional value???????? HAAAA-HAAAA-HAAAA-HAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that a LARGE percentage of the general public are clueless when it comes to nutrition. They were probably asking really legitimate questions (to them). In their minds, they probably think 'everything' has to have 'some' nutrtitional value, so let's pick the best. Sadly not one thing they ate had any value at all, unless you call fat valuable. LOL!

DUDE. I love my DD on Saturday's. That's my kick back day. Yeah, those are funny questions though. I could see myself asking that just to trip the staff up. Long live DD, baby.

I think a lot of people are truly ignorant about nutrition despite all of the information available.

My MIL is like that. She knows that I don't like feeding my kids junk. Most of the time she just ignores that, but sometimes she will give them something like fruit snacks and proudly tell me that they are healthy because they have "real fruit" in them. She will also argue that Jell-o is healthy because when her kids were little and were sick, the doctor would tell her to give them Jell-o. It's a losing battle.

I would have laughed but actually I was pissed off. First they were holding up the line - second by asking questions about nutrition at dd and worse and saddest was that dd has some kind of a chart this info. Then a couple behind me are praising the staff for having such knowledge in the anti oxidents of the fruity frozen drinks. The lady behind me says something to the effect that she wants to order her 'special' drink from the woman who knows so much about the nutritional value of a donut!
Me? I was like, 'gimme my coffee!'

My cousin worked in dd once. She used to tell me that these very large ladies would come and order several donuts along with sugared up coffee. But before they would order they would go down the list of what donut had what calories in it. In the end, regardless of the calorie count, they ordered what they wanted. Once she got mad (she walked out of there around this time) she told a woman off by asking her what was she doing in a donut place asking about calories? The woman spat back at her and then went and complained to the owner.

Anyway, dd has jumped on the bandwagon by appearing 'concerned' about health.

I don't believe Americans are that stupid to really honestly think that by eating a dozen donuts - with vitamins and calcium and anti oxidents is beneficial. They know the difference between good and bad, its just that bad always tastes better.

Maybe if they were berry donuts or muffins?????
Health benefits:Stick to your buns.
Maybe bran muffins, but i don't think dunkin donuts makes those.
There is nothing wrong with having a donut now and then, but i am sure not looking for nutrition when i do.
It has been a long long time since i ate a donut.
Making me hungry for junk.....

>I think a lot of people are truly ignorant about nutrition

I think so, too, especially since there's a lot of misinformation, conflicting information, and deliberately incomplete information ( like "0 trans fats" on a label does NOT mean there are no trans fats in the food, just less than .5 gm per serving), and most people just latch on to the 'Cliff's notes" versions of information. It doesn't help that most doctors don't really know that much about nutrition themselves, and corporate interests often fund the information that is disseminated to the public.

You know, back before the days of processed foods, people didn't need to "know about nutrition," because only natural foods were available to them, and I think they were more in touch with what their bodies needed. Nowdays, with so many processed foods, and artificial foods, and overly sugared, over fat foods, and people's tastes being changed so they crave unnatural foods, consumers DO need to be more aware.

Did you notice on that list that the Muffins were the highest in the cals! I heard that somewhere else that all muffins are is a glorified cupcake.

Yeah, the donuts were actually less calories than I thought. The french cruller is less than 200 calories... not bad... maybe I'll indulge tomorrow!
