:D Have you seen Shrek 2 yet? We saw it this weekend! In my opinion, I did not think it was as good as the first one, but how do you top the first Shrek? Don't get me wrong it was good but I guess I was expecting more! I just love that guy and Donkey too and now there is Puss N Boots! For those of you who have seen the movie what did you think??

You're right... how do you top the first Shrek? I think the animation was even better this time around, with the movements of the characters more fluid and the art work bordering even closer to realism -- the skintones, the facial expressions, the textures, the way Prince Charming's hair moved, and it was in slow motion, too. I think Pixar perfected this in Monsters, Inc. Too bad they separated from Disney. What will Disney do without Pixar?

I liked the allusions to other movies, especially The Lord of the Rings, and I liked the twist they had on the fairy godmother, who doesn't turn out to be the good character she always is in fairy tales. Am I giving it all away now?:) I love the tie-ins to modernity -- the kingdom of Far, Far Away looking like Hollywood, the "FFAPD" chasing "a white bronco", gender confusion in the big bad wolf and Pinocchio, "I Need A Hero" accompanying Shrek's urgent quest to keep Fiona from kissing Prince Charming... I could do without Joan Rivers, but this is a parallel world and what's a look-alike Hollywood without its resident hypocrite?

I'd like to watch it again, if only for the animation.:)

Holy cow! I thought it was hilarious and much funnier than the first one. I could not stop laughing. The scene where Pinnochio had to tell a lie was too funny. I really enjoyed this one and will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD. Oh, and "Puss in Boots"...toooooooo cute!! I loved him!!

:)

I just watched this one tonight. I thought it was better than the first but maybe that is because the first I watched on DVD and not at the theater. I know I laughed a whole lot more. Although when watching movies at home I do not sit through the whole thing. That could be it also. I liked them both.

I went yesterday. I thought it was very good. I don't really remember the first one, but I know I liked it! I laughed, my boyfriend laughed, the adults in the audience laughed, and the children in the audience laughed after the adults did.

BUT, I don't really think this movie was for kids. It wasn't inappropriate (for the most part), but I just feel like it was made for adults. I work with children from the ages of 1 1/2 to 4 1/2, and I know they will be going to see this movie. They certainly won't be scarred by it. But I don't really think they'll GET it. Do you know what I mean?

Wendy, I agree with you on that the movie may not have been made for kids. My 4 year old was getting bored, but I enjoyed the movie.
I have to say, I loved Puss n' Boots, soo funny! I think that an older child, say 7 or so might like the movie a bit more. My son just got bored is all. But I was asking him to sit still for an hour and a half, and that really isn't easy for a four year old. Yet, he loved the first one. He did say he like it though. But I think he didn't like it as much as the first. Might be due to lack of a dragon though.

Yes! My son made that comment, Kathy. He asked for Lord Farquaad and the Dragon. (Maybe it's a boy thing?) He liked the action scenes. Those kept him occupied. There were times -- when the pace of the movie slowed for story-telling purposes -- when he got bored, but he pretty much sat for most of it.

I hope this is the last Shrek. Tacking on sequels to a wonderful story becomes tiring at best and extremely annoying at worst. Eventually they become mere visual noise, and we have plenty of that already.
