HATE - Feb 1

August

Cathlete
Hello all!

It's the first day of February!

I started my new CTX rotation.

OH NOOOOOOOOOO, say it isn't so, say it isn't so!!!

Okay, Leaner Legs has the song that I hate..no, no, the song that I REFUSE to workout to. That SUCKS! So now I have to figure something else out for leg day. Why does leg day always have to be so hard! LOL. Seriously, I HATE the song. And it's like in every freakin workout I have.

Really, it's the song.

So I grumbled through Leaner Legs knowing that this would be my first and probably last run through it. Well, that's a bit of an "untrue" because I couldn't take the song to the end, so I finished it a little early. They even slowed down the song for this workout so it's even more painful for me to listen to. Then I followed it with half an hour of cardio.

And my green glop.

Diane - How great to have an upset stomach and that a bagel would be a remedy! Sounds like you're enjoying the beginnings of you pregnancy!

Terri - I'm starting to think that my smoothie actually does NOT taste good, but I've come so far in my smoothie experiments that this tastes delicious to me and only me LOL. I had been drinking smoothies after lifting for some months when a friend of mine suggested I throw in some greens. Who'd have known that would grow into 2 cups? And I totally can't taste the greens...As for the chocolate raisin, he's living under my washing machine for a couple years now with no hopes of a rescue. But I've come to accept him being there, and no doubt he loves his privacy. Or at least, I can only assume he's there hanging out, unless he's moved away, or morphed into something else. Oh gawd. Next subject....It is I who lives in Tokyo with a Nintendo obsessi -- hobby. I'm not familiar with Madden. But the title rocks! LOL...I wasn't expecting so many of you guys to say you felt the same about the 90 degree angle thing. I'm both relieved and now curious as to why so many of us have problems with that! Does everyone have problems with that? What's the deal?

Dana - LOL, I've been doing about 8 min of abs 3 times a week as an add-on, but now I want to focus on doing a 30 min abs day 2 times a week. But maybe I'm thinking too big...Cardio Fusion, eh? Hmm. Maybe I'll look at the sample. Hee.

Arista - Wouldn't you have loved to have been born with ultra-long and slender limbs? I always wonder how that might be. Ahhhh...But hey, you've got the German blood in you! I wish I knew an answer for your lifting heavy or lifting light. I am an apple and didn't see any kind of results lifting light. But then again I don't like lifting light with lots of reps, so maybe I just didn't WANT to see results for fear of having to keep up endurance workouts LOL. But as Jen mentioned, the usual consensus on the light VS heavy theory, is that if you don't want to gain bulk, you should lift light. "But muscle is more condense than fat" you say? I guess the idea is that if you lift heavy and are making muscle, if you're not losing the fat then you're adding muscle to fat, which will look bulkier than just the fat (as the muscle 'pushes out' the fat). And if you don't lose the fat, it will be more difficult to see the muscle tone.

Did I just write that? Don't listen to me. LOL.

Jen - Oooh, a chipped disc! All right, c'mon, tell us the story!...As for Quattro the frog, he's a character in my village in my Nintendo world.

-- Note to you new members of Hatesville -- I hope I'm not totally scaring you with my Nintendo talk. I thought I'd slip in a good word for myself (LOL) to assure you that I actually do live a real life outside of my Nintendo. :*

Anyway, the superman thing can be done on the floor, on the step or on the ball, or just on the step if you forget that you can do the exercise on the floor or on a ball, like me. When using the step, Cathe tells you to put a towel on the edge of it and have your pubic bone off the edge. Then you raise your legs into the air and proceed to rub your hip bones raw LOL. It's totally painful but not for the right reasons. I'm definitely going to switch to the ball.

Anyway, have a great start to your new month!

:D

Happy Feb all you haters. I hate Feb more than any month of the year. How can the shortest month seem like the longest? That's why my family makes a big deal out of Groundhog Day. Well, I make a big deal out of Groundhog Day. I mailed cards (yes, I did, ask Michele), bought gifts, and planned a party at work. Today I'm making cupcakes with almond joy bars made to look like groundhogs sticking out of the top of them. I may have to buy myself another Cathe WO as a gift for myself. There are still several I need to round out my collection. I'll have to check out Cathe's Feb rotation to see what I may be missing. I'm still home sick, but think the cold may be on the wane today. Other then the cupcakes, I'm taking it easy. I don't think I'll start the new rotation until Monday. Then I should be well, although totally out of shape and endurance.

Dana, did you get to do a workout last night? Are you at work today? I hope Gannon is better today.

Diane, how was the happy hour last night? Any more teasing from the girls?

Jen, LOL about poor needy Sport helping you workout. Maybe if he gets big enough, he will be an enhancement to your weight work.

ETA: You feed your cat 3 shrimp a day?!!? He needs to check in on the Healthy Hedonists!

Terri, do you and Jen know each other outside of the forums? Or have you just become friends here? I love the friendships that have developed here. I got a lot of support last fall when my DD had a baby, after hiding the pregnancy from everyone. I hope Cathe is planning a road trip. I love meeting Cathe friends face-to-face. I've met several and had nothing but good experiences.

Michele, what going on with you? Is the eye better? Is the bottom better? Is the hair better? Mine is.

OK, so no workout for me today. Just cupcakes and lollygagging on the computer. Have a good one all.

Hi girls- how is everyone? Greetings to the new members and welcome-sorry I havn't been on lately and I just "skimmed" the old threads so forgive me if my post sounds "dated" (okay why do I keep using "quotation" marks? I can't stop-help)August (based on your advice) I started throwing in spinach and romaine (after the mustard greens fiasco) and I love to drink my smoothies despite the yucky green color it has- I don't taste the greens either-it's a great way to get your "salad" in-

Michele-hope your eye is feeling better-

Robin-thats great that you celebrate groundhogs day-you sound like a great hostess- I wanted to have our annual superbowl party but hubby didn't want to this year (he's working a lot of hours) so I'm not sure what we're doing-

Diane-hope your morning sickness is not too bad-I loved being pregnant-

Hi to everyone else--deb

>I'm making cupcakes with almond joy bars made to look like groundhogs sticking out of the top of them

OMG, I want one! I want one!!

How do you make it look like a groundhog and not a log? LOL.

>I started throwing in spinach and romaine (after the mustard greens fiasco) and I love to drink my smoothies despite the yucky green color it has- I don't taste the greens either-it's a great way to get your "salad" in-

DANA! DANA! Did you read that, DANA?

What a relief! So I guess my tastebuds aren't completely askew.

Deb, so glad to have you back, we missed you! And I'm so happy to hear that the spinach and romaine are working in your smoothies!

Good morning, Gals

August - how long have you been in Tokoyo? Do you work there? How is the culture there? Madden is the pro-football game. It's named after John Madden, who is a long time announcer for the game. My DH drafts his own team, trades players, plays seasons, playoffs, etc. It simulates a real-life football season. What's the song you can't get out of your mind? I don't have leaner legs or CTX - are they heavy lifting workouts? Some Ninetendo speak: is there such a game as Rygar? We used to have it when I was in high school and it was my favorite game.

Arista - I too, have come to the realization that I carry all my weight in my limbs, even my chubby arms!! I just had a DEXA scan which determines your body fat - my arms were the "fattest" part of my body at about 40%! It's the back side of arm where the shoulder & tricep meet is where I really need the work. I'm assuming that only diet and good cardio will really reduce that area? Any thoughts? I'm Scandinavian - is it good ol' genetics from the Old Country that causes us to have thick arms & legs? Jen suggested high rep/low weight workouts from Beachbody to lean them out. I just started them and my thyroid is off, so until that gets regulated, I don't expect to see results.

Diane - I feel for you and the morning sickness! Although I have 3 kids, I never really enjoyed being pregnant. However, I loved feeling the baby moving inside and it is a truly wonderful experience.

I love Cardio Fusion! Oops, can I say that here in the Cardio Haters thread??? :+ I did KPC and simply LOVED it! Oops...another cheer for cardio? I'll be kicked out of here soon if I keep it up...but Jen turned me on to KPC...

ETA: Yes, Jen and I became friends through the forum. When I saw her picture, I just loved her arms...that's how it all started...Jen's arms...!

Hello everybody!!

I'm sorry I didn't get back here yesterday. It was one of those days where everything snowballed on me, and then before I knew it, it was time for bed. DH made it home earlier than usual for a Wednesday, too, and so I made a nice dinner. I haven't done a workout since the weekend...I think...I actually don't remember when I last did a workout but I intend to do one today.

I'm fully recovered from my snake therapy. Robin, I remember every little detail, honest! I was in a room with 2 young, adorable nurses and my doctor, who was also young and adorable (it's so weird to have a doctor who is younger than me). I felt my eyelids getting heavy as they injected the anesthesia, but I never did fall asleep. We talked through the entire procedure about everything but my colon--lol!

So after the procedure I was STARVING! All I could think about was food (nothing so unusual about that;)), so DH took me out to breakfast. You would not believe how much I ate. OMG! I had scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of toast, 2 sausage links, and a mess of home fries:eek: :9. And I didn't stop there...I finished DH's potatoes, too:eek: . On the way home we stopped off at the grocery store to pick up a few things. At this point I was feeling great and thinking about doing a little workout. DH brought me home and was kind enough to put the groceries away before heading to work, then after posting a brief update I went to bed to get a little rest. I thought I'd sleep for an hour or 2...I woke up around 5 PM:eek: . I slept like a rock.

My eye...I'm so tired of this whole thing. I still have a week of treatment left and I've about had it with this gel. It's so messy and clings to my eye lashes. I still have some irritation and my vision is still a little blurry but it does seem to be improving. I should email my nephew about it -- he's graduating form optometry school in May and he would probably find it interesting.

Looking over my post I can see that I'm as self absorbed as ever ;( . I kind of skimmed over the posts form yesterday so I need to give them a more careful review and then I'll come back and show some genuine interest in y'all:* :* :*

I want a GH cupcake:9

Good afternoon everyone! I'm back to work today - I"m at lunch right now. Gannon did not have a fever today or yesterday so I"m hoping that he is all better.

Robin - it is good to hear that you are feeling better. You are nuts celebrating Ground Hog Day. I hate them SOB's. HATE THEM. This is so mean of me say but - during road kill season when their carcasses cover the roads, I'm like, yeah, another bites the dust. Do you notice how many dead groundhogs there are in the spring/summer? So you're probably wondering why I have so much wrath for them? A few years ago, I was taking a walk, minding my own business, when out of nowhere one tried to attack me. I looked like a cartoon character taking off w/smoke coming out my feet. I don't think I ever ran so fast in all my life. It went right for my calve. Yikes!!! So ever since then I've hated them. Along with guinea pigs.

Michele - I can't believe that you were partially awake for the procedure. Were you supposed to fall asleep? Glad to hear that you are feeling better. You should contact your nephew, maybe he will have a fresh new approach on things and give you some advice that you haven't gotten before. What are you up to today? Did your card from Robin have an actual picture of a Ground Hog on it? She is nuts.

August - do you have CoreMax? That is a good one. Three separate core segments, 20 minutes each. If you don't have it, I recommend it. How much did you pay Deb to say she put spinach in her smoothie? You're sly like that. LOL What song are you talking about that you hate? I can't think of a song that I hate that much that I can workout to. Now if someone started putting Phil Collins' music in workouts, then I would seriously be in trouble.

Arista - how are the kitties getting along?

Jen - did you and Terri meet IFL? I have never met anyone from the net.

Deb - hiya!!!!! Today's the big day huh? What was the first workout on your rotation? How'd you like it?

Diane - how are you feeling today? Were you up in time to workout?

Guess what I finally found at the grocery store last night? Brocollini!!!! I've been looking and looking for it and last night they had it! I'm going to make it tonight!

Can we talk food today? This morning I had 1 cup cooked barley with a cup of fruit (blueberries, strawberries, black and red raspberries) mixed in w/splenda. It was soooo good.

I'm also planning on making a vegetarian lunch next week. I bought whole wheat garlic/herb wraps and I'm going to fill them with broccoli sprouts and avacado salsa. The salsa is in my WW cookbook and should be easy enough to make.

2 cups of chopped avacodo
1/4 cup red onion
1 can drained black beans
2 tbsp lime juice
1/2 tsp salt.

I didn't get in a workout yesterday. I'm hoping my Christi DVD comes today.

Have a great day everyone and hi to anyone that I may have inadvertenly forgotten.

Dana
You're ground hog story is hiarious! We used to own a guinea pig until it bit me when I was a youngster. My mom disposed of it in the most un-motherly way...

You'll have to pardon me, but I'm relatively knew to forum and cyber-chatting so I have to ask, what does IFL mean?

What WW cookbook do you own? I'm assuming that means Weight Watchers? My favorite is Take Out Tonight and Everyboyd Loves Chicken. I have some favorites in there like Shrimp Pad Thai.

What Christi DVD are you looking for?

Dana, I don't blame you for hating groundhogs. A co-worker had an aunt who was attacked by one too. She was weeding in front of her house, when out of nowhere, this groundhog rushed up and bit her. She had to get rabies shots.

Michele, I can't believe you chatted through the procedure. I was totally under for mine. The next day, DH would ask me if I remember something or other, and I didn't.

August, I'm trying to post a picture of the cupcakes. I have to wait for DD to return from class to help. The almond joy bars stand on end in a cupcake. You use frosting and candies to put eyes, ears, a nose and cheeks on the critter. They really turned out cute. Right now I have a loaf of whole wheat bread in the breadmaker. I'm going to attempt to shape the dough into a ground hog. Someone is bringing chili in to work tomarrow and I thought that would go well.

Terri, keep on loving cardio. I do. I can't wait for this cold to let up so I can get back to the daily workouts. Maybe tomarrow...

Hi ladies -

Just stopping by, busy at work today. I should have some time later to catch up on personals.

This morning I did "The Perfect Pregnancy Workout", the one with the acrobat. I like it a lot. It is all toning with some lunges, squats, modified pushups, tricep dips, shoulder work (looks like a dive bomber pushup on your forearms for advanced, beginners on knees, which is what I did), floorwork for legs, abs and kegels. Didn't work biceps at all, and barely worked back. Seems like none of these pregnancy workouts work the back! I will have to add on some of my own I guess.

Last night my friend brought up that I wasn't drinking wine. DH was there too and we both started smiling and laughing. My friend starting laughing too. So it was just unsaid that I was pregnant. No one else heard though.

I have no idea what IFL means. LOL I meant IRL (In real life).

IFL could mean in a future life!!!

Or August's words "I friggin lie about cardio" that would be IFLAC - that is almost like AFLAC!! You know, the duck commericals.

I am getting totally cool step from Christi, only $9.95 +s/h from collage. And I don't know what WW cookbook I have. It is from 2005 (I think)

Diane - that sounds like a fun workout.

Robin - I can't wait to see your cupcakes.

OK, I need to get back to work. It is killing me!!!

Dana, you are cracking me up!!

I'm so glad poor Gannon is back in the pink!

I keep getting sidetracked by the forums today--lots of elliptical questions on the OD forum:D :D :D

Me loves my Eli:D :D :D

I've been doing a little posting between loads of laundry.

I don't have a WW cookbook. Have you tried many of the recipes? I have about 200 cookbooks -- maybe more:eek: -- but only one or two that are "diet" related. I think I have one by Kathleen Daeleman (sp?) --she used to have a show on the food network. I have the South Beach Diet book -- not the cookbook -- the original book about the diet. I just try to slim down my own recipes. My cookbooks are a mess because I write all over them--lol!

You guys should see the Groundhog Day card that Robin sent me:7 . It's soooo cute. When my DH first looked at the picture he thought it was an otter--LMAO! (He had been looking at cuteoverload.com on the day they featured the otters and Robin's card reminded him of that:+ ). Anyway, Robin, you're too much!!

Robin, I sure hope you're feeling better by tomorrow. Is that when you'll be crowned Groundhog Day Princess? I hope you'll add pictures of the event to your Picture trail!

Hey, I want to see a picture of the cupcakes, too!!All right, the dryer is buzzing.

I had to come back and post again the moment I realized that my last post was # 6661:eek: :p :7 . I can't have the sign of the devil in my post count, for crying out loud--LMAO!

Body types...did I see talk of body types? I'm definitely an apple...a big fat apple:eek: ;( . Eli is trying to take a bit out o' me LMAO!

Diane, you didn't try a back bend, did you:eek: . Oh, I hope the morning sickness passes quickly.

I'm going to have to turn the dryer back on nowx(

but I need to post a few more times before I'm out of the }( sequence :7

So here's what I'm fixing for dinner tonight:

CHICKEN & BARLEY BAKE
Printed from COOKS.COM

1 tbsp. butter, divided
1 tbsp. oil, divided
1 lg. onion, minced
2 lg. cloves, garlic, minced
1/2 c. minced celery
2 green peppers, minced
1/2 c. dry white wine
1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, drained & chopped
1 c. barley, rinsed
3 c. chicken broth
Black pepper to taste
6 chicken legs & thighs, skinned & separated
1/4 c. milk

Heat 1 teaspoon butter and 1 tsp. oil in large saucepan (3 quarts). Add onion, garlic, celery and peppers and cook over moderate heat about 5 minutes. Add wine; bring to a boil and stir until almost evaporated. Add tomatoes, barley and broth. Bring to a boil; reduce heat; cover and cook for 25 minutes. There should still be plenty of liquid in the pot. Stir in pepper and transfer to 3-4 quart casserole with a cover.
While barley is cooking, brown the chicken on both sides in remaining 2 teaspoons of butter and 2 teaspoons of oil. Transfer chicken pieces to the casserole imbedding them into the barley mixture. Cover and bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Sprinkle the milk over the casserole and bake, uncovered, for another 15 minutes.

August, do you have workout mat? You could always lay that on your step for supermans.

OTOH why bother when you can just do them on the ball. :p

Oh hey Deb, it's nice to see you again! I've missed you:*

Okay, I seriously need to get a blender!

Terri, I have to have a Dexa scan, too, but I don't think they're going to measure my body fat...just my bone density.

The little devil is almost gone}( :7

I have trouble with doing rows and such at a 90% angle, too. I prefer to do one arm rows, either at a 45% angle, or with teh opposite knee and hand on the bench.

Let me see if I can find a good illustration.....

Michele - Yes I did the backbend but it didn't feel bad at all. Your pelvis never really goes up all the way so wouldn't hurt your back. I am sure it is a lot harder when you have a big belly though. ;) I just have a little pooch right now. :) The video was really not as hard as I thought it would be, just the right amount of intensity. I did basically all of the advanced moves except for the pushup and the shoulder thing that looked like a diver bomber pushup.

Diane, WOO HOO!! You did a backbend! That's awesome! I used to be able to do that when I was younger but I'd probably snap my back in two if I tried it now. I was heavy into gymnastics when I was a kid.

I can finally tend to my laundry now that I've advanced my post count.:7
