Has this ever happened to you?

Cathlete
I have been doing Cathe exclusively for a year now, and think I am in pretty good shape (can get through Boot Camp, IMAX2 and still be standing at the end ;) ). Anyway, in the past week I find myself really struggling with my workouts. For example, this morning I did PLB, which usually is tough, but do-able for me. I was dying! I only did the up-pyramid premix and by the end I was exhausted. I feel as if I'm as out of shape as when I first started exercising. Has this ever happened to anyone?

I'm drinking a ton of water and sleeping 6-7 hours a night, and even longer on weekends.

Thoughts on what's going on anybody?

Thanks.

Nothing a week off from exercise couldn't cure! Really, take a good rest, eat really well for a week, and then watch yourself bunce back with more energy than before!

Or, you may be sickening for something, or, depending on how old you are and what time of the month it is for you, it could well be that your body is changing and PMS is developing, as it does sometime in your mid thirties. I can get these same symptoms you descrive any time after day 15 of my cycle and it is completely hormone related. Keep track of your cycle for a couple of months, and write down your workout experience and symptoms each day and see if a pattern develops. If this starts ocurring premenstrually each month than you will have solved the puzzle. Knowledge is power. Knowing that hormones are responible helps me a lot: then all you do is pick lighter workouts on premenstrual days and really gun it from days 1-14! Or, whatever adaptation works for you.

I absolutely agree with Clare's post. And I experience the same thing from time to time too. Sometimes you just need to step back from vigorous exercise, walk and do yoga only for a couple/few days and then you'll be ready for your regular routines again. I have this problem a day or two before my period and this has been going on for over a year now so I know the 'symptoms' and I'll just spend that day or two doing light exercise because I know I won't be physically able to handle a Cathe and then I just get frustrated for tripping over my feet or not being able to do all the reps. etc.

I'm going to pass on a tip I read in a magazine a couple of months ago and it has helped me with cramping, which I never used to have until about 3 years ago that started. Anyway, lie on your back next to a wall with your butt against the wall and straighten your legs and just lie there like that for awhile. I will also do this with my legs up on a ottoman and I get the same benefit. I'll watch a television program or a movie and by the time it's over and I get up the cramping is gone. Great non-medical pain relief!

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know what was going on. I just turned 39 last week, and I thought this was some left over depression kicking in.;)

I'll lighten up for a few days and see what happens.

The same thing happens to me, workouts seem harder tahn usualy and I get winded easily. That i smy sign that i'm overtrainig. I take a wek to tone it down a notch. When I come back, I feel so much stronger.

Yep, it's walking and yoga time. I hit the wall every once in awhile, and the only thing that stops me from COMPLETELY quitting and giving up for months is to recognize what's happening and give it at least 3 days off from Cathe and running. It only took me.......oh.......25 years to figure this out..... :+ ;-)
