Hi Anne,
iTrain's resistance training workouts that I have tried are:
a. iSculpt Traditional
b. iSculpt Ballet
c. iStrength
iSculpt Traditional has workouts led by Grace or by Mimi (also called Milena).
Those led by Grace Lazenby are nothing like Cathe workouts. She does lo-weight, hi-rep style for the upper body, some compound moves and some ballet conditioning thrown in for the lower body. For the abs she uses pilates style moves as well. I'd rate it hi-intermediate. It is a nice blend of styles but it is not suitable if you like traditional, gym style resistance training. She does not waste any time and can really fry your triceps and abs. I dont use these as often because I prefer gym style resistance training, but I use the Core (abs) track from my iSculpt collection as a standalone workout after cardio on the treadmill.
Mimi's style is more comparable to Cathe. She uses more traditional weighted strength training and relies also on body-weight resistance based classics like pushups, tricep dips and unweighted lunges or squats. On some workouts she spends a bit too much time describing what you are supposed to do, but some are superb. I think two of her workouts are winners:
- iSculpt Circuit Traditional Set 12. It is quite an intense workout that uses zero equipment (except a mat for certain moves). It has some cardio moves, but more strength. It has a bootcamp quality which keeps your heart rate elevated through even the strength work. The workout has multiple circuits. In each circuit you do two exercises back to back, non-stop for 1 minute each, rest a few seconds and then repeat. I rate this high-intermediate/advanced. Very high energy and high fun-factor. The music too is great.
- iSculpt Circuit Traditional Set 22. You use a mat, a set of dumbbells and a dynaband. It is a cardio+resistance circuit workout. It comes a close second as my favorite in this category from iTrain. Same comments as for the previous - lots of fun and high energy.
If you like Ballet style conditioning iSculpt Ballet is Grace's forte. These are intermediate to high-intermediate workouts for lower body and abs. They usually start with barre work, then have floor core and finally lying floor work. She builds quite a burn without tedious repitition of the same moves. I used them as a second leg workout in my weekly rotation (the other leg workout was weighted Cathe style leg training) for a while and was very pleased. Some of her Ballet workouts use the magic circle, and her recent ones include upper body too, but I havent tried those.
I have just iStrength circuit Set 9 from the iStrength series. It has cardio intervals and gym style training (truly gym style - you need gym equipment). I really enjoy this workout. I did not at first because Nick ignores the beat of the music. But I've come to appreciate that slower, controlled lifting with heavier weights means you cant always go to the beat. I love Nick's style. Very motivating and friendly, but no-nonsense at the same time. His voice can push me to give my best. I havent done enough workouts by Nick to compare him to Cathe, but I think this workout rates on par as far as intensity with Cathe's non-killer circuit workouts (it is not drill max tough by a long shot).
I dont subscribe to itrain now. I was a subscriber for almost 2 years. The reason I stopped, ironically, is because their workouts are too good. I dont get an opportunity to do the ones I have collected often enough, and I am taking a break from subscribing to do my existing workouts some more.
When I subscribe again, I definitely will collect more from Nick, including straight (non circuit) strength training workouts, and any circuit style that Mimi puts out.
Let me know if you try them.
