Hi Kim,
No, I haven't read this book. I am familiar with the Glycemic Index though. It's just like any other plan really... if you work it, it works. If you have a sweet tooth though, the Glycemic Index probably is not the best way to go for you. You'll have to give up the sweets since sugar is pretty high on the index. I was finally able to stick with my WOE when I got real about what I was willing to do. I have a pretty healthy appetite so I realized that calorie counting diets were not for me. You've got to sit down and figure out what is absolutely not negotiable for you. If sweets is a non-negotiable then find a way to work it in and still meet your goals.
If you're focus is eating clean though, you should at least strive to give up refined sugar. There are other healthier forms like raw honey or maple syrup, agave nectar, etc... When I realized how bad sugar is for you, I was able to give it up with no problem. If you focus on how good the food tastes, it makes it a lot harder to give it up. Focus on how bad sugar is for you and you'll have better success. Or, just go with a diet that allows sugar, like low-fat, and just try hard to moderate your intake. I still have sugar, but it's an occasional treat like a slice of cake for my birthday or Christmas. I also enjoy occasional unhealthy foods like pizza but occasional is the key word here.
I still eat chocolate pretty regularly though. Except now, I only eat dark chocolate which tends to be lower in sugar. I make sure to get good quality chocolate because it's richer so I don't eat as much. I also don't stock pile it in the house. I buy what I'm going to eat right then. You've got to figure out what's going to work for you.
This got a bit long... Sorry
