Has anyone broken their little toe before?

Hi everyone. So this morning I rammed the side of my bed with my little toe...God, it hurt. But after a minute or so of hobbling around I finished getting ready and went to work. When I got to work an hour later, I realized it still hurt. It also hurt to walk (I was wearing close-toed heels), but not unbearably, just uncomfortably. After I finished my classes, I took my shoes off to drive home. I have a dark bruise along the line where my toe hit the bed, and it's a tad swollen. It doesn't hurt, although I guess I have kind of a dull awareness of it.

So...it's not broken, right? If it were broken, wouldn't it hurt like a b*tch?

I really want to workout tonight as I didn't yesterday, and I was thinking, since it's just the heels that hurt and now that I have my shoes off it's ok, I should be fine in workout shoes. I thought maybe I wouldn't do cardio, though, just in case I land on it funny. Do you think I'd be fine with just weights, or maybe yoga?

Thanks for any thoughts. I'm so annoyed at myself!

I'm not sure if I broke it or not, but definitely at least sprained it or something at one time.

I read that for broken toes, it helps to tape it to the adjoining toe while it's healing (it makes a kind of brace).

I saw a news story once that said the average person breaks their toes about 450 times in their lifetime. There are so many bones in your toes & they're small & fragile, so almost every stub causes a fracture of some sort.

I did the same thing you did in the middle of the night & lost the entire tip. Bled all over the place. And yes, it was broken.

Tape your toes like Kathryn said, & do your workout. If it hurts too much stop. If it doesn't hurt too much, work your butt off. ;)

Little toe

I broke my little toe a few years ago when I was doing hamstring curls too close to the coffee table:) The poor little toe was just hanging there....

I taped it up and was good to go. As a matter of fact, I ran a marathon about a week later without pain and ran my person best too!

I fractured (and minimally displaced) my 4th metatarsal 7 weeks ago. It still swells up every once in awhile, but I can finally run on it without any pain. I still worked out those 7 weeks, but tried to avoid high impact as best as I could (modified if I needed too). After 1 week, I finally went to the hospital to get an X-ray. I found that it was easier walking barefoot or with flip flops. I eventually bought Nike Free sneakers, so that I workout with little pain.

Mine didn't hurt too bad when it happened (I dropped a kettlebell on it from about 6 inches high). It bruised and swelled up a little bit. Anytime I injure myself, I found that you can workout around it. Weights should be fine, and Yoga. Riding a bike worked well for me in the beginning too (anything non-weight bearing).

I hope it's not broken!!

OMG!!! I am going to wear shoes around the house from now on!!! I'm sooo sorry for all of you... and I'm cringing big time! OUCHHHHHEEEEEEEE!

Yep, broke my little toe about 5 weeks ago, didn't think anything of it right after it happened, it was hanging out at a 90 degree angle...then the next morning the whole top of my foot was black & blue. I had it x-rayed, and it was broken. They just taped it to the next toe, gave me one of those ugly boots, and told me not to do a lot, wear the boot all the time. I did pretty much, until it really didn;t hurt any more.

Wow, some of you have just destroyed your toes, lol! Well, I definitely didn't lose any part of my toe, and it's not at a funky angle, but yeah, quite bruised and hurts a bit. I went ahead and did the total body sculpt premix from LIC, with a couple modifications...worked out more or less fine. =)
I sure to hope this heals quickly, though. I've stubbed my toe a ton of times like everyone else in the world, but never anything like this!
