Harder on carpet?

Has anyone else noticed that it's hard to do cardio videos on a carpet? I'm not just talking about pivits. I think since carpet is softer then the harder floor it's harder to jump on it. I'm wondering if there's anything I can put on it so that it would be easier. A Piece of linolium maybe?

Try putting down puzzle mats which you can buy at Target or HomeDepot. That's what I have over my carpet and they work great (I've had them for a couple of years). :)

Do you think the puzzle mats protect your carpet?

The reason I ask is that we are remodeling our home and I'm getting a small workout room along with the project. YEAH. I'm thinking of what type of flooring to use. I also do Firm workouts and the incline step can slip on hard wood so I've heard. They recommend puzzle mats for that too.

So, I'm trying to decide what type of floor will work for all my workouts.

The only problem I've ever had with carpet is sometimes the sole of my shoe seems to get "stuck", like on pivots. I've never stepped on anything but carpet though, so maybe I can't give an unbiased answer.

If you have concrete underneath your carpet, working out (cardios) could be harder for you -- esp your knees. We have wood support underneath our carpet, so it's gentler to the knees. Something to think about.

Yes the puzzle mats protect the carpet. Part of the reason I originally got them was because we put down new carpet and our old carpet was definitely more worn where I do step and hi/lo. We didn't plan on staying in this house more then a couple more years so it seemed like a good idea. Well it turns out we're not moving and the carpet looks great and I love the mats! I've been using them for 2 years now. They give you added cushion, you can do most turns fairly easy and they wear really well. I workout 5-6 days a week and the mats look as good as the carpet! :)

How many mats do you guys use? I have been thinking about getting these but wasn't sure how big of an area you'd typically cover...

Thanks,
Marie
