Hardcore Fitness Maniacs for Wed June 27

Dallys - You're so funny! It would be fun if we could all ride together. How many times do we say that? :)

Hey Char - I just saw your post where you're taking the Tastee Greeze peeps on a ride. Good for you! And I kept meaning to ask you how long it takes you to do 30 miles (on a mountain bike which is not easy!) but I see you just posted that too. Way to go!!! Keep up the good work. You are just amazing!

Lora - I always wonder about too much fruit and the sugar. And I think too much messes with my tummy. Makes me a leeetle too regular.

Sandy - Hope you'll hang out with us more. These ladies sure are motivating and so dedicated.

Diane Sue - Mmmm...ice cream. The girls at work got blizzards from Diary Queen yesterday. I always say no but they always ask. :)

Suz,

The ice cream is really sweet at Tastee Greeze (lol) and even my kids think so. I wouldn't touch it. No worries for me. lol. I see the people coming in ordering so much unhealthy stuff and then eating it, and it shows. We joke about the nuggets looking like dog biscuits. Girl asked me what she thought they put in the nuggets. I said, you probably don't wanna know. lol. I know I don't

Anyhoo, you are going faster then me on your bike and you use an inhaler too. All I can do is shake my head and tell you to go on with your bad self. I can't wait to see if the girls will actually ride with me or not. You know how that can go..say they will and then change their mind. We will see. Anyhoo, got to go do arms and shoulders now. Later~

Hi Suz,

I'm gonna committ so I have to now. Ya'll need to hold me accountable!!! ;-)

To anyone who can help with this. I think one reason I'm having a hard time is due to I feel like no matter what I do I will not be able to take off around my middle, and the back fat...UGH! I'm not a huge person. I'm 5'7" and last weighed was 147. Not bad, but what I really need is cardio for my heart health, then weights for toning and lifting in areas if ya know what I mean. I would say I'm an apple shape, because when I gain weight it's always in my middle. I'm 45 yrs old, so is it really possible to trim away the fat, or should I say tighten my skin. I'm not flabby to where it hangs while standing, but when sitting or bending over, my tummy looks like an older lady, when I refer to older lady I mean it looks wrinkled and just UGLY to me! Not to offend anyone anywhere,I'm speaking about myself only. Like I said when I'm standing you can't tell it would ever look like that! HELP!!! What to do for this? My water intake is just awful, and well I'm working on my food intake.
Okay I've layed it all out there, how embarrassing! Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Thanks again! :7

Charlotte - I have to say I got so tired of people at work asking me for help and then NEVER helping themselves. They give me so many excuses (I'm too busy, It's too hard, It's just easy for you and not for me). If somebody is really interested in wanting to change I'm all about helping them, but they say they want help and then they all order Blizzards or they bring in donuts or cookies or whatever. I just throw up my hands. I've been here 5 years and have finally given up. Isn't that sad? I've never actually offered to go ride with them though and I think that will be a big difference - actually getting out there with them. You're a really good person.

If you put your mind to it and you got a road bike you'd be just as fast. With your determination there's no question. I could certainly not lift as heavy as you, so I know you have it in you. But you're doing great. You probably wouldn't want to do that anyway b/c you'd burn all that muscle you work so hard for. I already know that my neurologist is going to throw a fit at me when I go back in August b/c there's no way I'll be able to put on any weight before then with cycling season being here (as if I want to anyway, but you know - you just don't gain when you ride that much).

Oh Sandy, you CAN take it off! And b/c you gain around the middle it is VERY important that you do. I'm sure you know that is the worst area health wise to gain (b/c of your heart). I will let the more knowledgeable people respond in more detail - ha, more detail than MY posts! That's funny. But I will say that I just lost 16 pounds and it took me about 12 or 13 weeks. I planned to lose 10 in 10 weeks while my DH was away but I started a couple of weeks before he left. I did an hour of cardio 6 days a week and lifted 2-3 days a week. I planned to lift 3 days and really would recommend that, but it gets to be a lot of time working out and some days I just ran out of time and toward the end was only lifting 2. But I always got in an hour of cardio and then when cycling season really hit (late here due to weather) my cardio sessions got longer, but that wasn't until probably about 7 weeks into it and I had already lost 10 pounds. I also really cut down my portions - a lot! It was very HARD! I'm not sure I'd recommend cutting that much, but I wanted to be sure to lose it before DH was finished being gone. They say you shouldn't go on a "diet" but I knew if I could get to a certain point then I could maintain it by eating smaller portions and I just didn't want to take 6 months to do it because I wasn't sure I would.

You CAN do it!

How's that for a short answer. :p

Suz,

I'm really working on it. I know the people you and Char are talking about. I'm proud to say I'm not to that extent, I'm actually getting much better. I used to LOVE fries, but I haven't had any in quite a while now, I'm so proud of myself for that step. I'm trying to more sweet potatoes, and lots of greens. Can't do salads because I sabatoge it with the dressing, sometimes I'm good and have the dressing on the side, but still. Yes, I know the middle is the worst place for fat. I would love to get my weight down to 135, I think I would feel good at that size. I have been cutting back on my portion sizes too. Trying to eat my last meal of the day no later than 7pm.
You look great by the way! You have lost a lot of weight, you look like you feel good! Tonight I'm doing slow and heavy shoulders. I'll do cardio tomorrow. Maybe I should go back to doing more cardio. We'll play it by ear, see how my body responds to what I'm doing now. Thanks for the encoragment, don't know how many times I've said that already. Did you use to do the "Body for Life" do you still if you ever did, how's it working for you if you did it?
Thanks! :)

Char- YOu know, dog bisquits are probably more healthy than the Chicken nuggets! LOL! I'm scared of chicken nuggets! I can't remember the last time I had ice cream either. I pretty much stay away from that. I do have fries once in awhile (maybe once a month), cuz I like em.

Char and Suz- You are making me want to ride my bike today! All this talk about milage is making me antsy. It's like you are hypnotizing me... Must. Go. Ride. Bike. LOL!

Sandy- Have you done BFL before? It's a good program and it really taught me alot about correct portion size and getting in more protein and vegies. I'm in the process of reading "Burn the fat feed the muscle" and it's refreshing my memory. I also haven't been drinking enough water. I've been working on that the last couple of weeks. It's so easy just to grab a diet pepsi instead. I have to quit that.

Dallys,

Back in 2003 I had got up to 163, I felt terrible, but one day out of the blue for the first time out of many looking in the mirror I finally saw what I really looked like at 163. Not pretty. That's when I tried the Southbeach diet, I did it for 2 weeks strickly going by it, and lost only 3 lbs, I thought for what little food I was eating, I will just start counting calories and cutting my portions in half or less, staying away from unhealthy foods. I also began working out to Cathe, I was working out 5 to 6 days a week and yes I took some of the ideas from "Body for Life". It worked, with counting calories and excersising, I lost 25lbs, what a great feeling that was! When I got to 138. I thought okay this is good. I'll maintain at this point. I felt great! Knew what foods I could and couldn't eat, drank water like there was no tomorrow. I would have a diet soft drink once in a while. I would have Saturday's as my cheat day. That worked for me, kept the weight off up until November of last year. My company sold to a bigger company in July of last year, and luckily they kept me but I'm down town Charlotte now, the drive is terrible, but I have my job! There's a lot of personal things that have happened in a year that has taken a toll on me mentally, and physically. I'm back up to 147, which isn't bad, but I remember how good I felt at 138. Anyway my point is that I think with all the stress I just grab what I can and kind of had a feeling of despair, my mind was preoccupied with the other things going on in and around my life at that time. That's why I'm coming back here to check in with everyone and maybe talking about it will help! Sorry for the tangent, but just wanted to give you and everyone else here a little more history about me!
Thanks :)

Sandy- No need to apologize for the tangent.:) Sounds like your life has settled down some and now you are ready to get back on track.
I had some stress going on a few months back and had a difficult time with my eating. I was just eating anything and everything and not realizing it... eat, eat, eat. I'm still working on getting rid of those few extra lbs I gained. It happened so darned fast! Getting rid of it is not going near as fast. That should be a lesson right there! Gain fat=very very easy. Lose fat=extremely difficult.

Dallys,

Thanks! Love the last part, so true! That's why I want to get a grip on it right away. I worked too hard to let all go to waste, most importantly my health. I'm waiting on my dh to finish working out, then it's my turn! I'm actually anticipating it! Don't know what I'll eat this afternoon though. Maybe some type of grilled or baked skinless boneless chicken with veggies! Sounds pretty good right now because I'm hungry!
Oh, I looked at your pics you look great too! It shows that you mean business here. Maybe it'll rub off on me, and help me to keep it up this time! I don't won't to look back on my life thinking of all of the times I said "this time" ya know. :)

Dallys - Go. Ride. Bike. Go. Ride. Bike.

Sandy - Yes, I'm a Body for Lifer person. I pretty much follow it for the most part. Except when I dropped the most recent weight, which as I mentioned wasn't the most healthy way I'm sure. But once I was at my goal and started eating smart again, I went back to that b/c it's very easy for me and I believe it's very healthy. I suck at counting calories and I hate complicated diets. I won't do them. I just love the BFL way of life. Lucky for me my DH is a believer in it too. So it's easy for us to talk about what we want to eat. We usually cheat on Saturdays but we don't go too crazy. Except when we go to the Macaroni Grill and eat that bread! But now I can't eat as much as I could before so that's good.

Sounds like you've been through a lot but you're on the right track. Keep checking in here b/c like Dallys said it's no fun to check in and have nothing to post workout wise. Plus, you can check in and tell us your healthy eating success stories each day. One day at a time.

Hi Suz,

I'm getting a lot of support today, thanks to everyone! My husband really trys to watch what he eats because he has high blood pressure, looking at him you would never know. He's about 5'11" weighs about 185 and very calm. He tries so hard to help me, and keep me in check, he has always worked out. There's times when he get away from it due to life getting in the way, but as long as he is in his workout mode, he'll eat clean, therefore helping me to eat cleaner. I'm not gonna lie to all of you and tell ya I've started eating clean today, I will say I'm on my way to cleaning up my diet as of about a month ago. I am thinking of going back to BFL. I'm gonna try to up my cardio for sure. The step will have to take a back seat for a while. My knees have bothered me after a step w/o. I'll continue to do the brisk walks, and some kickboxing, and hi/lo's. Anyway, tonight I did shoulders, my weakest body part, I did the Slow and Heavy, I used 8lb db's for front raises, 5lbs for lateral, 6lbs for the straight arm extensions, 8lbs for military press, and 5's for my rotator cuff. I'm a weakling, but I'm doing it! I think I'll just do one body part, and work my way to doing the DVD like it's meant to be done. Hope I'm making sense of what I'm saying. Sorry for the long posts, but I've got a lot to say I guess! Hope everyone has a good night! :)

Sandy - Like I said, one day at a time.

I finally posted "after" pics. They're in my Workout album. After how many years of befores I finally have afters. I can't believe it! Hehehe.
