Hardcore Fitness Maniacs for Thursday July 12

Cathlete
Morning Maniacs -

I'm off to do some cardio and possibly yoga or stretching.

Dallys- thanks for the download. I loaded it and looked at it briefly. I'm not sure how to do some of the exercises. Is there somewhere to look at pictures that I'm just not seeing or is there a website to go to so you can look at pic's....for example, I don't know what a Bulgarian Squat is etc. thanks so much.

I ended up doing Champion Rebounding. This is a pretty good workout. I love the kickbox segment and Mugger/Drug Dealer Drills (instructor is a Security Guard and teaches self defense). I had a hard time breathing again due to coughing and wheezing from this cold (which has taken a turn for the worse). Cardio was about 67 minutes and I burned 463 calories. I only was able to keep my HR between 80-85% of max. I then did Amy Bento's 10 minute stretch and Kundalini Yoga with Ravi and Ana - AM Yoga 30".

Dallys - did you order that Chris Cornell? I can't wait to get mine. I heard that song again this morning "She'll Never Be Your Man". I really like it. It's sort of bluesy sounding and his vocals are amazing. He is an excellent vocalist with great range. I wanted to ask you something else, but I'm having a brain lapse....so if I remember....I'll post later.

Diane Sue - thanks for the link. I just didn't know what you meant by a heel stretch. Did you mean Achilles??? I still didn't see a heel stretch in that link (unless I overlooked it).

So - do normal people have difficulty breathing with a cold? I NEVER get colds and I haven't had a bad one since I've had asthma and I don't know if I should go to the doctor. I already know I'm a bit neurotic....so I don't know if I'm worrying for nothing. Do normal people have difficulty getting their HR up when they have a cold due to coughing and breathing??

Have great workouts or rest days ladies.

Morning ladies, i have only been home for 3 days and i am whipped already.. I have been at work till at least 7pm all week..I had all intentions on working out last night and i was starving, so i made some crab legs and shrimp coctail instead...LOL...

Toasty - do you have Flyleaf's CD? I just ordered it yesterday. I've really been getting into their music lately. I've been hearing it quite a bit and the more I hear, the more I like!

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Had a good arm workout yesterday with my son. Didn't get in abs so this morning will do. Busy day here today. Yoga on tap.

Lora,

Yes, have Flyleaf's cd. My favorite song..."I'm so Sick". lol.

Anne,

Silly woman...I am gonna take some tums before I open up your emails. lol. Have a happy workey day!

This morning was Angulars working Back, Legs and Biceps. Had a great workout. No dizzy spells. 1 minute rest between each set:

Back
Pullovers: 40# - 2 sets/12 reps; 35# - 2 sets/12 reps
Kelso Shrugs: 60# - 15/15/12/12
**Notes: I usually go higher with pullovers but I find when I get up to 40# my triceps get involved. I felt that after the 2nd set so I lowered my weights and concentrated on my back doing the movement. Kelso Shrugs ROCK!

Legs
Leg Extensions: 80# - 1 set/10 reps; 90# 3 sets/10 reps
Elevated Deadlifts: 60# - 3 sets/10 reps
**Notes: Deads are getting less terrifying for me. I try to do excellent form but sometimes I feel myself move to the right which is how I injured myself in the first place. Wish I could just go heavier with these.

Biceps
EZ Preacher Curls: 50# - 10/12/10
Zottman Curls: 15's 3 sets15 reps
**Notes: Zotts are such an awesome exercise. Got a great burn in my forearms doing these.

Should have done abs but ran out of time. Maybe I'll have time this evening do work them.

Hope you all have great workouts!

Lora - I'm not reading BFL.

Good Morning, it is going to be another busy day and I overslept. Today I am doing Gym Style Chest and Biceps and cardio will be either Kickbox or Step. I have a cake in the oven and everyone is coming over for DD birthday. I have to go shopping when I am finished with my workout.

Lora, when I say heel stretch it is like the towel stretch they show and the off the step stretch. I thought this was pretty informative and shows pictures. I roll my foot back and forth over a frozen water bottle as well.

Anne, I don't know how you work out with those long work hours.

Hey Maniacs! Getting ready to take Carma for her walk.:)

Lora- That Precision Nutrition site that you registered for has a link at the top called "exercise videos", it shows tons of exercises. Bulgarian split squats are doing a lunge with the back foot elevated. Cathe does these. I'm reading "Burn the fat feed the muscle". It's an excellent E-book. My dd has the Chris Cornell CD already downloaded, so she's making me a copy.

Anne- I'm tired just listening to your long hours! Isn't there a way to shorten your day somehow? I also think the 4 day split looks great!

Debbie- Great workout! Great you are feeling the energy again.

Toasty- Enjoy yoga today. Ommmm. Ommmm.

Diane Sue- Enjoy the birthday party.:)

Later....

I am anxious for the 4 day splits.. Hopefully 1 hr or less.. I can do 2 hrs on the weekends, but weekdays are killing me..It was a breeze on vacation.. Nothing else to do..

Good morning!

I was almost out the door for ride this morning when Jen called - her & her DH woke up late. He had PT test and they had to get all his stuff ready. No ride. That's okay. My DH is off today and wants to ride later but I had already committed to ride with Jen so that works out. AND I would have slept in b/c I was SO tired but since I was up I did a quick back and shoulder workout and then came in to work early so I could leave early and ride with DH.

Back - Smith Machine
Rows - 45# 15 reps x3
Pulldowns - 75# 15 reps x3

Shoulders
Overhead Presses - 15# dumbells 15 reps x3
Side Lat Raises - 12.5# dumbells 12 reps x3

I have GOT TO DO ABS later. Make me accountable you guys. :) I've been so bad about them lately.

Diane Sue - Since you are lactose intolerant do you have issues with cottage cheese and/or yogurt too? I've read that some people can still tolerate it - just not milk and ice cream, etc. - but yesterday at 4 I had some and last night my stomach was sticking out so far and hard as a rock!!! I was a little gassy (sorry - *blush*) but not terribly. I showed DH my stomach and he was like WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? It was so weird looking.

Dumbbell chest flys 35# 3 sets 12 reps
Dumbbell incline bench press 30 # 12 reps 2 sets
Dumbbell incline flys 25# 12 reps 2 sets
barbell close grip press 45# 10 reps, 45# 10 reps plus 4 slow
dips 45# 24 reps
lying tricep extensions 15# 8 reps 2 sets
seated extensions 25# 12 reps 2 sets

dumbbell kickbacks 15# 10 reps 1 set, 12# 10 reps 1 set
band kickbacks green same as Cathe

Suz, I can have not noticed a problem with cottage cheese and yogurt but don't eat large amounts of them like I would ice cream:) I can eat a lot of cottage cheese, but am not real fond of yogurt. Cottage cheese has so much sodium so it keeps me from eating as much. I think part of the problem with yogurt and ice cream is they put high fructose corn sweetner in them and lots of additives. Those things seem to enhance the bloating and cramping. I even tried that yogurt for a couple of weeks with the probiotics and it didn't help. Also if it is sugar fee stuff sometimes the sugar alcohols will be part of the problem. But I know what you mean. I have had my whole mid section puffed out and hard with cramping. That is miserale.

Dallys - I hate to be a pain in the butt...but I just got done reading the TT e-book and I wrote down all of the exercises I need to look up, but I can't find pictures on that Precision Nutrition site. What are they listed under? I'm on the Forum over there and can't figure it out. Thanks. (Also - what does DB (which I know is dumbbell) RDL stand for?? I can't figure out RDL.

Hey Maniacs! I Just got back from the "Macaroni Sin Palace". You will not believe it, but I didn't have ANY bread. None. Just a salad with Balsamic vinegar and 2 tiny pieces of pizza. So, I actually can have self-restraint at the "Sin Palace". I know! I'm shocked too!:p

Lora- On the home page, right under the big "Precision Nutrition" and above the "big strawberry in the cream". you will see; my account, product and services, results tracker, exercise video (this is the one you want) etc. http://www.precisionnutrition.com/members/index.php

Or

This link http://www.precisionnutrition.com/members/showthread.php?t=5384 is a discussion on the program and people have posted some great help and direction for the odd named exercises.:)

I'm pretty sure RDL is Romanian Deadlift.

Hope this helps.

I just read the above review on Afterburn by Alwyn Cosgrove (the book that Dallys told me about yesterday). I really want to buy it....but it's expensive. Anyway, in the above review, this person acts like anyone who weightlifts utilizing a split routine and resting between sets is just wasting their time. He says Circuits is the only way to go for mega calorie burn.

I'm confused, as I thought we were supposed to change it up periodically to keep our body guessing..........even if Circuits do produce major caloric afterburn......are we really wasting our time with straight weight lifting with rests and split routines?

Dallys - WHAT???? No bread at the Macaroni Sin Palace??? Isn't that the whole point of going there? :p I don't even know what to say to you right now. I'm just amazed at you and speechless (which for me, we all know is amazing!).

Dallys - ever have the bread at the Australian Outback? it's brown and warm.....and sooo good. Not sure what kind it is. Thanks for the info. I was thinking RDL meant Rear Drop Lunge.......thanks for the info. I'm reading up on Afterburn now and I really want to buy it!! Darn. It sounds so good from the write up.

Suz- I thought about you the whole time I was there, cuz I know you loves the bread and would be shocked at my amazing self control. LOL! I'm like, not even full or uncomfortable.

Lora- Dang! I've never been to the Outback. Good bread is definitely one of my weaknesses.
I've been reading Skwiggs blog for a few years. I love her! She is the one that got me into all of these circuit training type books. She has some of her own on her site too. Anyway, you have to realize that she is into Martial Arts and ciruit training is ideal for that (always moving, building endurance, etc.). Traditional weightlifting probably is not as beneficial for that sport. I believe that circuits (lifting heavy) are ideal, but I also think traditional lifting has it's place too. It just depends on your goals and your sport, if you have one. There is nothing wrong with mixing it up, IMO. When it all boils down to getting really buff (again IMO), I think it leans very heavily on the diet side of things.:( Especially the older we get.
I really want that Afterburn book too, but I think I will try the Turbulence rotatation first.
