Hardcore Fitness Maniacs for Monday Oct 29

I ended up doing Gin Miller's Serious Strength total body weights. Workout was 1 hour and 20 minutes and I burned 440 calories. This workout is supposed to be a high rep, heavy weight workout.....but I did it more as a heavy weighted workout in sets of around 8 reps with rests in between. I don't know how you are expected to do heavy weight and high reps. Hilights of this workout were the glute work (bridge work on the floor) and glute lifts. It really got the glutes and it had some rather unique stabilization/core exercieses at the end. I think my injury pain is flared from all of the pushups in it.

I also did Iyengar Yoga with Lynn Watkins - Seated Forward Bends & Twisting segment 28" and Inversions 20".
I don't understand why the market is so flooded with high rep workouts. It's hard to find a low rep, heavy weight workout....so I usually just make workouts into one!

I guess with the Amy's and Tracey's pending ....I should hold off on starting a new rotation.

Where's Dallys been? Did she go on vacation? How about Suz? Did she go on vacation?

Toasty - did you order Seether?

Have great workouts everyone.

Decided to take a rest day yesterday so I did Shoulders today. I'll probably have to skip one of my cardio sessions since I missed my workout yesterday. That's ok though.

Meg - I followed the rotation they use at the studio - which is as follows:

Arms/Abs, Butt/Legs, Chest/Abs, Shoulders/Back, Full Body.

I found this to be a bit too hard on my body....especially the high impact aerobics every day ....and for a while I modified some of the impact on the Rebounder and then I started doing them every other day with a day of cardio in between. I also did it another way last time I did them, but I can't remember how. I think I did them like the Studio but modified the impact. I also can't run every day ....so the TM Cardio portion is not an option for me on a daily basis. I've been thinking of starting another BBC rotation after my new Tracey's & Amy's come and I play with them a bit.......but since the foot doc told me no more than 3 days of high impact a week unless I want another stress fracture, I'll have to modify the impact on the Rebounder....but that works okay too. If I did the cardio on 4 risers (which I don't have anyway), it would kill me. I have no idea how ANYONE can do it!! I also find I need to do drop sets, as they do so many reps and in high rep workous - if I don't use heavy enough weights, I can't fatigue my muscles, yet I can't keep going with the higher weights.....so I do them more as drop set, high reps. Diane Sue might be able to help you also....as she ordered them and did them recently. I'm not sure if she liked them though. Did you see the article posted on Barry on the Open Discussion thread? It was interesting. He's a fellow recovering addict and has only been clean for 3 years or so and the article said he's concentrating on his new DVDs.

Good morning all! Chest and back later today.

Yesterday, I did 15 minutes on the stepmill I have at home - Level 1, 170 calories. It's the first time I have worked out on the stepmill. Brutal!

Lora: nice workout. Woohoo on burning 440 calories! :D

Debbie: Nice workout. You're really rocking it on the bb overhead press. How has your weekend been? :)

Megadoo: Cute costume! I love Halloween.

Diane Sue: Nice kickboxing workout. I love to kickbox.

Anne: I hope you feel better soon! I love being sore ... going on the bike should work some of the soreness out :)

Have a nice afternoon everyone! :)

Hey Girls!

I'm here. I've just had that stinkin' sore throat like you wouldn't believe. Has had me out of commission. No other real symptoms besides being really tired. I didn't really have anything to offer here other than jabber. I haven't worked out since maybe last Wednesday? That's a world record for me! I wanted to but DH told me I better take a break until I felt better and I thought if I didn't and I got worse he'd say, "I told you so." The doctor put me on this huge mega dose of amoxicillin and prednisone. Told me the prednisone might make me aggressive. :p DH asked me if he should get me a helmet. Haha! My sister was surprised at the high dosages of both of those drugs they gave me. I'm about 65% better today. I've also been working on that Little Orphan Annie dress for Halloween (voted on by my department - that's what I get for having red hair, right?). I was hoping to make a dress that I could wear again, but we'll see. The fabric got kind of spotty after washing. It wouldn't have been so bad if I had felt better, but I got a late start on it, so now I'm kinda crunched for time. I hope I finish it - or else. It looks cute right now on Mimsy, my dress form. And since her and I are the same size... ;)

Hope you're all doing well. I hope to get in a workout tomorrow if I'm not up til midnight again.

Meg - Congrats on the costume contest!!! You're a little hottie!

Just got back from getting my haircut. I went to a different stylist cuz I have been hating my hair. Not sure what I think yet, but it is an improvement. I'm eating my Asian salad from McDonalds. They don't have the Southwest Salad on the menu any more :(

Meg - forgot to mention - your hair is sooo long. You look really good girl. Your living arrangements must be agreeing with you. Are those pictures of you in the restaurant you work at? Are those your coworkers? Did you hear that I got a job at Walgreen's in the cosmetics dept.....since I can't seem to find a secretarial job. I'm supposed to start this week, but I'm waiting for my background check and drug test to clear. I'm nervous about working all of the odd-ball hours. Not sure if I'm going to get used to it. I'm such a "routine" person. I wish you'd check in more often. You'll have to keep me updated on BBC.

Suz - geez.....that throat problem sucks. It really sounds like you have Strep. I can't believe you were negative. Good thing you're on medication now. I just got thru with a course of Prednisone....but it was just a Medrol Dose Pack........not like the last time they blasted me with 3.5 weeks of it and I started out at close to 100 mgs a day! The doctor says Prednisone will make you agressive? I wonder if that's why I was talking back to my mean husband......when I usually just shut my mouth and take it. He's been a real jerk lately.

I am trying to get a few household things done before I leave for my dentist appt.. I finshed my workout doing 4 day split chest and back repeating round 4. Then I did the bonus yoga segment from Rainbeau Mars Dawn yoga. I got my Yoga Booty Ballet Master Series Goddess Booty and Yoga Core. Wish I had time to play with it a little. I did look and I think it may be good to use tomorrow since I am doing legs and abs.
Chest and back weights

one arm row 35# 8 reps super set with push ups, full and partial no 2 times
barbell underhand row 65" 7/7 reps ss w/ incline chest flys 30# 12 reps 2 times
one arm dumbbell row wide fly to side 35# 12 reps 1 set

incline dumbbell press 32.5 # 10 reps both sets (this was set as one set and I did it twice)
t band flys purple dynaband
push ups around the clock same

Meaghan, I don't know if I would be a lot of help with Barry's. I only tried one of the cardios and did not like the tall step. I did do the treadmill workouts but not every time. I did other cardio instead. I love the weight work. I sometimes did chest and abs and shoulders and back together and would take a break day to do just cardio and yoga. I only did the Total Body non weighted one once. For some reason I did not care for that one all that much. It is intense though. Have fun doing them.

Suz, hope you get your orphan annie costume finished:) I now you will have fun. You need to post a picture of you as Orphan Annie:)

Lora - Wow! You were on a MEGA MEGA dose! I'm only on 40mg a day and the pharmacist said that was a mega dose. I guess he hasn't seen you yet! That would explain your fighting back with your DH, but then again his attitude lately would explain that more. :) My DH made me call the doctor back b/c I guess that sometimes those rapid strep tests don't always show the strep and if they run them the following day the strep shows up. Happens to a gal's daughter who he works with all the time. They didn't have my culture still (it was one of those doc in the box places b/c I didn't want to wait to make an appointment at my doc) but the doc ended up prescribing the meds. Since I haven't taken antibiotics in forever and ever I wasn't concerned about doing so. My sis said the average for the antibiotic is around 600-650 milligrams and they put me on 875 twice a day. I hope it kicks this thing quickly. It's sure a lot better.

Diane Sue - I'll try to get pics. I'm going to try to make my hair as curly as I can get it. And I can get it pretty curly. I should look ridiculous. :)

Great workouts everyone!

Penney - My weekend was good. Went to a Halloween party at my dad's house. We had fun but I had to sit in a garage full of cigarette smoke and almost choked to death. I hate that.

Oh Man! I HATE cigarette smoke :(

Rick and I like to go to those little Mom & Pop places for breakfast and the smokers are EVERYWHERE  We call them "smokehouses" :p

Diane Sue - Maybe you should try Barry's on the lower step.......as that's the way I did it and it was intense enough. I think the high step they use is sort of unsafe.

Lora, did you like the Barry's step work?? I only tried one. I just saw that Amy Bento was supposed to have shipped out the first group of orders up to invoice 1550 today. I think mine are both below that. I did not order the step at first and went back and ordered it.

Diane Sue - I've tried all of the Barry's cardios...both TM and non TM. When I did the non-TM, I modified some of the impact on my Rebounder and used both my lower step (1 riser) and higher step (2 risers - or my Firm higher step box). I found it elevated my HR enough doing it like that. It was a bit hard on my joints and now that I've had this second stress fracture, I'll probably be sure to modify the impact again. I think I was jumping rope when my fracture occurred....as I was doing that Jillian circuit work.....and now I'm sort of paranoid about impact. So glad I have the Rebounder. The cardio on Barry's is very athletic and that's what I like about it. It's short....but when I first got them, I did 2 cardio's back to back for a 40 min session and I thought my legs would give out on me!! That falls in the category of "never again". Funny thing is that I have some workouts that I've done and after I do them, they were so hard, I never pick them up again. Don't know if I'm getting older or if I just happened to be slightly overtrained that day.....but I still haven't done Mindy's All Systems Go again or Keli Roberts New Definitions one. I hope my Amy's shipped too. I have no idea what number I was. I'm nervous cuz I just found out I start my job on Wednesday and there goes my long workouts. I was planning on doing Kelly Coffey's cardio sculpt one but at 72" and not being used to getting ready for workk.......not sure if I could be ready for work on time! I'm so spoiled from not working for so long.

My energy level was a little off tonight. It could be because my nutrition was off (had a protein smoothie for bfast, then went out for a late lunch w/friends and had a fried fish sandwich w/deep fried green beans, then split a can of soup w/Rick later) Also, I think I do better in the mornings. I have been playing around with the idea of working out at night for a while.

Chest Press: 15x65, 2x12x65
Stable from last week

DB Incline Press: 3x12x15's
Stable from last week; whew the last set was killer

Cable Row: 3x15x60
Stable from last week. For some reason I missed the Cable Fly and did not notice it till I was done w/the assisted chins.

Assisted Chins: 12x120, 2x12x130
Slowly getting better at this one. Very humbling indeed

Cable Fly: 3x12x25
I struggled on this one tonight. It could be because I was already pretty fried by the chins.

Low Back Extension: 3x12x200
Stable from last week

Cardio:
Elliptical: 5.5 minutes levels 5-9
Treadmill: 3.6 mph, 0 incline for five minutes, incline 10 1 for minute, intervaled for 30 minutes

I pooped out on the elliptical tonight after only 5-1/2 minutes, so I switched to the treadmill. I got a good workout out of it

That's all folks! Have a nice night everyone!
