Hardcore Fitness Maniacs for Finally Friday February 22

Morning Maniacs -

This morning I did AOS Providence Kettlebell Workout followed by Amy Bento's stretch segment from Hi/Lo Dome (cuz the KB workout had no stretch). Workout was 67" and I burned 469 calories. I used my 15, 20 and 25 lb KB's. Chest presses were surprisingly hard with only a 20 lb KB. For some reason, they seem harder cuz the weight load is distributed differently holding the KB. I did all of the overhead shoulders....hope they hold out. I used light weight for the Windmills & overhead squats where you keep your arm locked out.

Wow -- My preview of this DVD was wrong. I didn't do this last Friday cuz when I previewed it, it looked like it moved slow and wasn't that hard. Doing it was ANOTHER story! Wow....I liked it. Couldn't believe how my HR stayed pretty high and I had to actually take breaks! I planned on doing a recovery jog on the Rebounder during the 1 minute breaks and I did that somewhat, but at a couple points, I actually took a breather. I can also see why KB training makes your legs in great shape.....it's all of those super low (to the floor) squats!! Yikes. I really liked this one.

I got the Newport DVD last night and previewed it and it looks really tough. I don't know if I'm ready for it yet. Need to practice on form. I also ordered Firepower since I liked this so much.

Lisa - the only exercise I'm not sure I'm doing correctly is the Snatch. Can you try to explain proper form to me. I have trouble with figuring out how you go from that swinging motion all the way up into the straight arm, locked elbow position properly. Sarah Lurie doesn't explain it on her instructional DVD or workouts either. I can't afford to buy KB Clinic by AOS....it's too expensive.

Have a great day everyone. It's snowing here like crazy......need to leave for work early......ugh!

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Nice thin layer of ice this morning. Fighting with my daughter about going to work. It is suppose to turn to just rain later today, but I really didn't want her to go. I told her drive 5mph.

Well I guess I am gonna do some ebay this morning and sell off some attire and a few perfumes.

Gotta do Upperbody Plus and Abs-Core Plus AGAIN. lol

No workout for me today. I felt something really weird in my low back yesterday when I got off the couch and I didn't like it one bit. It feels fine today but I didn't want to take any chances. I'll do my weights tomorrow.

Sandy - Hammer Grip Front Raises are done holding two dumbbells, palms toward your outer thighs. Lift dumbbells parellel to the ground, hold in the up position for about two counts and then lower back down. If that's how you did it, kudos to you!!! Woo hoo!

Char - Did you get any new music yesterday?

Morning Maniacs,

Today was full body done in two sets of twelve with 90 seconds rests. I worked hard this morning.

Chest
Incline Barbell Press
12/11 - 75#

Back
T-Bar Rows
12/12 - 70#

Quads
Plie Squats
12/12 - 85#

Biceps
Barbell Curls
12/12 - 45#

Hamstrings
SLDL's
12/12- 90# (my grip was shot by the time I got here with the t-bar rows and the barbell curls on forearms that were already sore)

Shoulders
Lying FD Lateral Raise
12/12 - 10's this is a weak area for me so I went lighter and paused at the top nd took my time on the negative, I was toast when I finished)

Then I did 4 DS Kickbox abs.

Debbie - Hope your back is okay! By strange coincidence something bizarre happed to me yesterday but it was my right shoulder instead. I had just returned from the grocery store, and unloaded the car and was at the computer checking emails when my shoulder started to ache. From there it rapidly intensified to this unbearable pain that consumed by shoulder, arm and lat. It had me on the floor calling DH for help using the speaker phone. As I was waiting for someone to find DH at work I got into child's pose and just let that arm lay completely limp on the floor. It finally stopped after about fifteen minutes. I think it was just a muscle spasm.

Sandy - Happy to see you are doing so great. I unfortunately am not. I again had some chocolate yesterday. Fortunately, not alot but then I found myself picking at other things to avoid the chocolate and overall just ate way more than I should!x( I have to do better today, especially because if I don't eat right it rips my stomach apart because of the IBS. And well, that just hurts!

Lora - sounds like you had a great workout!

Have a great day!

Linda

Hi Everyone,

Debbie - That's what I thought, that's exactly how I did them, BUT I used 8lbs dumbbells each and added them together...don't ask why. I wasn't trying to cheat really!!!

Linda - If it makes you feel any better yesterday at work we celebrated some birthdays and of course what is a birthday without the cake right...well this was also an ice cream cake with "cake batter" ice cream, I could not pass on that. I had a small piece and that's it. I have UC so I know all about the pain from IBS it's a terrible thing. Last week I was sick with a stomach virus plus a flare from the UC. OUCH!!! Did you find out what the shoulder pain was from?

Charlotte - We have had close to the same weather, you sound like me with my dd. Are you still meeting with Coni today?

I'm at work so had to make this quick!

Did Kenpo Cardio+ yesterday with my older son. Was fun. :) Today did Imax2. We had some nice heavy duty snow this morning so I was out with both of my boys sled riding on my property for about 2 hours. Now it's raining. Bleh. Got another good workout running up the hill to go back down to the bottom of the hill on the sled. :)

Lora- I know you asked me a couple of questions and I'm going to try to answer them all... Begin with the snatch, you keep your arms pretty straight and as soon as your biceps get close to your head, I'd say about your jawline, you flip the bell. It's mostly in the wrist and forearm when you do the flip. Concentrate on your hand, wrist and forearm because that's the main part. Your shoulders do the rest. Don't hold the handle so tightly or you'd get a burn. Once you have the KB above your head, lock your elbows. I don't agree with locking it as it can do damage if not done right but Pavel said to lock it. The snatch is one of the moves it takes practice to perfect. It's somewhat easier to do it with a KB than an olympic size barbell. The barbell can either make you or break you. LOL Now about Pavel, I've skimmed through Pavel's book at Border's. I didn't feel the need to purchase it as Bodybuilding.com link I sent to you has same things in the site. I didn't know he has a dvd out but I know he has two books at bookstores. They're about 25 bucks for somewhat thin book. He also has some workouts set up. If you have the chance, go to Border's or Barnes & Nobles and look at the book. If you feel like it's worth the purchase, I'd get it. I'd love to get the AOS dvds especially Newport and Firepower, I think. It'll be over 100 bucks for both including shipping. The reason why I'm not too fond of Amy's cardio is because it's so repetitive. I can't stand any cardio dvds that are so repetitive. Cathe's older workouts were sooooooooo repetitive I couldn't take it. I get bored so easily. Amy's step is not bad but her hi/lo....I previewed her Hi/Lo Dome and I still haven't done it because it looked so repetitive. I like Gin Miller's intense moves but I don't have the tape any more. I regret trading it. I'll have to check out if she has dvd. I'd like to try Tracey but is she interval like Cathe or more cardio-ish?

Debbie- Thank you so much for the chicken recipe. It looks so good! I LOVE garlic. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Your back is bothering you? Mine has been bothering me so much for a month now. It hurts every time I sit down. My lower back. I feel a little lump. It could be my spine as I haven't felt my spine in almost 5 yrs. Too fat. LOL :p I hope you feel better though!

Linda- I take a combo of glucosamine, chondrin and msm. Previously, it was glucosamine but didn't work...Then gluco and chond. worked good but the combo of gluco., chond. and msm works so much better. I take it every other day due to arthritis in my knees and a cracked cartilage in my left knee. Supposedly glucosamine helps the cartilage to rebuild. We'll see.....

Char- Glad to hear your shopping went well yesterday! Did you buy any new music?

Suz and Dallys, please check in soon. How's getting ready for the bike season going? Give us a big hardcore shout when you can! :)

Lisa

Hey Maniacs!!!

Didn't get any new music yet. Just shorts. I went back to mall today to return a top I got. I thought it looked really good, but dh and my dd didn't think so so if it is not flattering on me then I don't want it. Didn't have time to look at music while at the mall as I went with my son and he has to go to work this evening. Did stop to eat. My son tells me I am a barbarian when it comes to food as I eat way more then he does. Oh well. I have been buying too much perfume anyways. Just ordered Sugar Moon and The Glowing Vulva. lol

Got to do my workout now. I am behind.

Ya'll have nice weekends!

Yes, where is the rest of maniacs??????

ETA: Oh yeah, Coni and I didn't get to meet. The weather was alittle tricky this morning. Maybe next time.

Hello Everyone,

I just finished my workout. I did 4DS kickbox then the abs. Had a great burn going especially in my legs, then had a good burn on the abs! Feel great!!!

Debbie - I started this total body rotation last Saturday, so I will continue with the same for this week coming up, then do the supersets the following week correct???

Hope everyone has a great workout!

Linda - meant to tell you how impressed I am with your weights! One day I'll get there!
What is the SLDL, I know it's some kind of dead lift. When the rotation has called for this I've done hamstring curls.

Have a great night!

Lisa -ugh....just home from the day from Hell....but that's a whole different story! Anyway, Tracey's intervals are more cardiosh...not as intense as Cathe's. I tend to like repetitive some times....cuz I like blasting my hard rock and just following along and the less complicated, the better, thus the reason I DO like the new P90X+ cardios. Anyway, meant to ask if you had time to look at the Shoulder Clinic Rx link. Should I buy it when I get money? Anthony said if I can't get it to work on my crap of a computer with my dial-up, he'd refund me. It has PDF files? Or do you think I can get just as good pointers from you since you are the KB expert and a trained professional??? Also, re: the Snatches - just tried a couple how you describe...but it seems when i flip my wrist, my arm just bends more....not locking. Do you think I just need practice? I don't want to hurt myself. Did you find practice helped you a lot? thanks for answering all of my questions.

YAY....my new Eion Finn DVD shipped!
