HARD CORE FITNESS MANIACS FOR SAT NOV 13

Today I did a new cardio dvd, Michelle Dozois Cardio Interval Burn, I really enjoyed it, it was easy to follow and got my heart rate up, kind of like Turbo Fire, and speaking of TF I then did Hiit 15.

Cold and dreary here, going to start dragging my Christmas decorations out, I love to have it all up so I can sit back and enjoy.

Also, anyone have some good cookie recipes for the holidays, it might be fun to share some with each other, we may find something new to bake for our friends and family.

Roselyn - I've heard nothing but good things about Michelle D.'s new videos. Winter has definitely set in around here, too. Christmas decorations -- that's a good idea. They seem to help it feel ... warmer :D I have a lot of cooke recipe's. I don't think ANY of them are healthy  Will that be a requirement? The cookie recipe exchange is a great idea, though -- either way.

Yesterday, I did 8 tabata cycles. That came to a bit over 30 minutes of actual work (8 x 4 minutes). They were all pretty tough. Two were on my bike trainer and the rest were compilations of Insanity moves (extra practice to work on speed/form). I also did ten minutes of pistol practice. Actually, I changed the work/rest intervals to 30/10 for 6 rounds after a couple cycles (so it wasn't 'properly' tabata per se, anymore). This added up to the same amount of time per cycle, but increased the work by a tad and got rid of some of the rest. In a way, it had a mental advantage, I think. 6 rounds seemed to go by faster, even though they were a bit longer.

Today, I'm just not sure. Either Insanity or a longer (less intense) cardio workout.

Enjoy your Saturday,

Lori

I have 2 of my grandchildren over for a sleepover. I went to lunch in town with their family:D My workout this morning was BodyMax 2 scrambled eggs premix adding on the abs segment. Workout was 89 minutes and calories burned was 702. HR Avg 144 Max 167

I slept in this morning. I haven't slept 8 hours in what seems like forever. Yesterday I went to Barnes and Noble with a 25% off coupon I got online to check out the fitness dvds. I bought a Budokon set but it is pretty simple. I think he gives good instruction. The yoga was basic stuff but felt good and I liked the punching and kicking moves. Later I will have to try some harder stuff. This one was a weight loss program. The dvds that I saw on their website that I was interested were not in stock in the store. I was also hoping to get a Zumba workout and Jari's latest. I just wanted to get 1 Zumba workout to try and see if I liked it.

Lori, how is your DS feeling? I still felt kind of icky yesterday. I was hoping the yoga workout would give me some energy but it didn't At least the stomach got better. Just the cold and achey feeling hanging on which I think is a whole different thing. I can workout through almost anything.

Roselyn, with the cold and rain yesterday I started to realize that Thanksgiving and Christmas are almost here. I have looked at Michelle Dozios workouts but have not tried any. Here is a Cookie recipe that I make for a lot of events. Everyone seems to love them. It is from a book I read years ago. Definitely not a healthy recipe LOL
Chocolate Coma Cookies

1 cup chopped pecans
4 oz. bittersweet chocolate chopped
1 cup dried tart cherries(you can sub cherry flavored dried cranberries)
12 oz chocolate chips(I prefer dark chocolate)
2 cups oatmeal
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda
½ tsp sea salt or table salt
½ lb unsalted butter(if I use salted I cut the salt in half)
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ tsp vanilla
350 degrees oven

In large bowl combine cherries, chocolate chips, and oats and set aside.

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and set aside.

In large bowl mixing bowl beat butter till creamy. Add the sugars and beat till light and fluffy, about 4 minutes. Add the dry ingredients to the mixture and beat on low speed until well combined, less than 1 min.. Add chocolate chips, chocolate, cherries, oats, and nuts. Using a sturdy spoon mix all ingredients together till combined. Roll into balls and flatten slightly. Bake 12-14 minutes. Cool 1 to 2 minutes on pan then remove to cooling rack.

Lori, definitely the recipes do not have to be healthy, it is Christmas and they will be shared right:) (maybe)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

Preheat oven to 375.

Cream together
2 cups sugar
15 oz can of pumpkin
1 cup butter

Add:
2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
4 cups flour

Then stir in a 12oz bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips, or ghiradelli dark chocolate 60% YUM, makes about 8 dozen cookies.

Spoon onto cookie sheet, bake 8-10 minutes.

Note: Cookies will not flatten while cooking and the cookies remain soft. You can tell they are done when the top does not look "goopy"

Diane Sue, those cookies look wonderful, I am going to make them. I will post another tomorrow.
