Happy UNturkey day......to all my veg*an comrades !

Hope you are having a wonderful day, filled with delicious (and turkey-free!) food and great companionship (or even enjoying the day off by yourself).

I get a little blue thinking of all the turkeys slaughtered for the sake of tradition, and it's an image that's hard to avoid this time of year.

I planned (sort of, kind of!) to make a yam pie or some stuffing (with lots of sage, apples and sunflower seeds, and maybe some goji berries, which taste like untart cranberries), but instead of driving up to the coop where they sell the whole grain breading for stuffing, or even putting in much effort at cooking, I decided to just do whatever I wanted and forget about celebrating the holiday!

I'm going to the matinee of the new Harry Potter movie with a friend. We're hoping to avoid the big rush by going when most people will be chowing down on the traditional meal. Hope our plan works and we don't end up in a theaterful of noisy families...or tall people who sit in front of us! LOL!

Hi Kathryn! I am with you on the blue feeling about the turkeys being slaughtered. We actually have a pet turkey and he is very lucky!!

I am looking forward to try the Tofurkey roast, gravy and of course my Vegan garlic mashed potatoes!!

I'll be watching Football til I go to my sisters for dinner. I hope you and your friend have a great time at the movie...:)...Carole

I'm with you in spirit, folks. I am just eating normal (vegan) food today, avoiding all of my relatives except my 20 yr old vegetarian daughter who also came over for soup and a veggie wrap we shared. And she did Supersets and I did an 8K this morning, and then S/H TBA this afternoon. I probably will lose weight today! That's a fine feeling, for sure.

Ever since I gave myself permission to "just say no" to all scripted holidays, I am so much happier. Like my friend puts it, " the forced gaiety, the wretched excess". Obviously we are all different, but I do not enjoy all that and am very much enjoying just letting the holidays pass as unnoticed as possible.

Mogambo...sounds like a really nice day for you. I'm with you on the holidays just passing by...:)

The Tofurkey was awesome. I was very impressed...:)...even have some leftovers....what a shock... x( :) :+ ..Carole
