Happy HATEful VD! - Feb 14

August

Cathlete
Hi, guys!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Oh gawd. The person living in the apartment just above mine is having construction done from today for a MONTH. They are going to tear out the cement in the flooring. This is not good. For someone like me who works mostly at home, this is not good.

I think I need a hot bowl of broccoli, cottage cheese and tomato sauce. Maybe with feta.

The drilling and whatnot hasn't started up yet, so I'm all right as of now.

Today was S&H shoulders, GYM calves, C&W abs and Winsor Pilates buns and thighs. Ahhh!

Now to work I go!

Jen - Wow, blizzards everywhere! Remember how great it used to be to be snowed in and couldn't get to school? I know this sounds like a lie, but I would love to shovel snow. It totally sounds like fun exercise...How great to have been there to happen to hear the guy tell the story about hot water and his son. I had no idea that hot water could have such a positive influence like that. After you drink hot water, how long does it take for the magic to take place? And how did you know how much water to take? Sorry for the grilling, but I've never heard such a method and I find it really interesting!...Oh, by the way, I bought fixings for some Mexican food. I hadn't bought cheddar cheese in forEVER, and now I find it's calling me incessantly....Heheh, Shoveling With Jen. I can see the catch at the beginning of every DVD workout, Jen holding a big ol' snow shovel, looking straight at the camera saying "You can...(pause)...Shovel it!"

Diane - Oh, you should have milked that meat cutting situation for all that it was worth : in front of your bosses, after the guy cut your meat for you, you should have said, in a stern voice, "Now butter my bread."...Anyway, glad to hear that your sister had a positive reaction to your pregnancy!

Arista - Oh, I got almost all that gross flab off that meat, because it totally icked me out. It could have been an extremely dull documentary called The Lunch Project : Marble. I was totally immersed in my task and nothing else. It'll teach them better where to take me for a meal when they want to talk business LOL.

>I might buy him some sexy lingerie (for me)

Cracked up at that parenthesis! But it's good to be clear about those things, eh? LOL. And I think it's a marvelous idea to get something sexy like that on you for him - particularly since you've never done it before. He's going to flip!

Michele - Oh, wow!! That elliptical is gorgeous! Man, I kind of wish I hadn't seen it LOL. I hope I don't start getting the urge to measure my apartment spaces again.

Robin - I'm sorry to hear that Greyor is still on a respirator, but what a relief to hear that the doctors say he'll have a full recovery. You really must be exhausted. I think whatever falls on your plate is good for an exercise plan. And I agree with Jen, have you considered doing a stretch workout, or a light one? You never know what muscles are all cramped up from your hospital stress, just waiting for the plyo to ignite them!...Oh no, another lost post?! ARUGH! I love your pithy posts!

>LOL about your fatty ribs. Well, not YOUR ribs. The rule is no bad things said about ourselves. Does that mean I can say bad things about you or any of the others? I like my ribs with so much sauce you can't see the fat.

LMAO at this entire post. LMAO!!

Oh, and I see you were able to workout after all. And Body Max no less. Sheesh.

Terri - Har har har, stoking your oven! You'd think out of all the words Dana used : The Lean Cuisine Brick Oven Mushroom Pizza, that really the only word that should have registered is PIZZA. Maybe 'cause you guys keep posting yummy sounding recipes that require ovens, I've become acutely aware of them LOL. I mean, it's not like I'm asking you about getting together with a guy named Papa Murphy, right?

Mariah - That is really, really awesome of you to follow through with your workouts and ignore that voice telling you to skip it! Woo hoo for Mariah!! No snacking and no desserting but no losing weight - now that must be just about the most frustrating thing ever. But no doubt you've lost fat if you're eating relatively healthful meals. Do you feel any different - could you have made some muscle with your workouts? If you're bloated, have you tried upping your veggies and fiber? 2 cheats in 3 months is really an amazing accomplishment and something to be proud of. It's great that the positive things that you get out of your meetings with AA and OA are giving you a stronger, more positive inner voice...Did you have a great time with your cousin?...Oh yeah, I would totally count snow shoveling at cardio & weights.

Dana - It's good to vent. And you needed some good venting. How frustrating to have a plan and want to do it, but just not be able to for reasons that are seemingly easy to remedy. Can the kids hang out with DH in the garage? Is there any way to talk to DH to set up so that he can watch the kids for an hour while you do something good for yourself? I wish I could come over there and watch your kids while you work out. But like Jen and Arista both mention, don't get down on yourself. There's nothing, nothing to be ashamed about being in a bathing suit to enjoy the summer festivities with your children (and mostly every other female adults there who are just as self-conscious)........I was taken to ribs for a meeting, so it was with someone who doesn't know that I don't normally eat that kind of thing - none of my friends would think to go to ribs with me! Funny, now that you mention it, I didn't feel gross like I did after eating a plate of fried food. I guess I must have really cut away all the fat, so my ribs meal was in actuality fairly small LOL....That's cool of your boss to let you do some work at home and use it as a work day rather than a forced holiday.

Have a nice day everybody and chat with you later!

August - I'll just be sitting here by my lonesome in your fridge whenever you feel like having another nibble. Not that you have to. But I'll be here. Waiting.

Ched Cheese

Happy Valentine's Day Ched. Glad you joined the check-in. Although I don't imagine you'll be around much longer. I suppose you are rapidly slimming. Unless a piece of you happens to go visit Mr Choco Raisin...

August, I'm so glad you post nice newsy replies so I can keep up with everyone. I find it harder to keep up here then with the <--thread. There is cement in the flooring ABOVE you?!!? Is that anti-earthquake construction? Sounds scary. How many floors up are you? I hope there is a minimum amount of disruption to your life.

We got about 8 inches of snow here last night, with a lot of sleet mixed in. My DH is shoveling right now. Maybe he can be in Jen's workout DVD. He looks pretty darn good for a 50 year old grandpa. It's supposed to keep snowing and blowing all day. I wish I could work at home, but the bacteria are about 12 miles away, on the other side of a mountain. At least I was told by supervisors not to worry about getting to work on time this morning. DH and DD don't have work/school today, so I'm hoping they'll do some housework while I'm gone.

Everyone have a wonderful VD. I hope you do the workout you love today. I'm planning on one of the IMAXs after work. Talk to you later.

Hiya, Robin,

You're right. I've been a good influence on Ched, and he's lost an impressive amount of weight.

x(

Can feta go on Mexican food? :*

The Super told me that they would be removing the cement and drilling the floors above me...could he be wrong? I'm on the 5th floor of a building that is nearly 40 years old. Should I be scared?

I have not said or heard the word "sleet" in I don't know how long. LOL.

"He looks pretty darn good for a grandpa"...LOL...the man's only in his 50s! Of course he looks good!

All right. Back to work.

Morning Haters,

August: At least you didn't ask if we were inviting Papa Murphy over for a threesome! That would really have raised some eyebrows...That construction above really would be annoying. I too, work out of my home and would find that very disruptive. Great workout BTW.

Jen: Your snow shoveling workout would be a best seller, especially if you wore your tiny shorts that your co-worker saw you in. Hey, you don't have to be shoveling REAL snow...

Diane: are you feeling better? Does every know? How 'bout work? Were they excited?

Robin: we escaped the snow and everything. It's just cold now -3 but should warm up to 10. By Sunday, it could reach 30!

Michele: any good recipes lately? I made a soba noodle salad with seared tuna the other night and the kids, yes, kids loved it! I'd never had soba noodles before and DH was a bit skeptical. He thought they were pretty good too.

Dana: What's up with DH that he can't help out for an hour or so? Vent here all you want, then, once your anger is out, talk to him about setting some kind of compromise. How old are the kids?

Arista: yeah, you're right - there isn't anything glamourous about Papa Murphy's. I suppose I could serve it on my china with a glass of wine? That'd spice it up a bit! BTW, the "glamour" part of my username was from my Mary Kay days. I haven't sold it in several years, but the name just stuck, I guess.

Mariah: we're here to help support you as much as you need with your diet. I'm a nibbler and just decided today that I'm not going to nibble. I caught myself reaching for DS pancakes this a.m., but threw them in the garbage instead.

I did a premix on KPC today that I really enjoyed. It was the combos along with the standing leg work from L&G and then abs. I'd never done L&G before and really liked some of the exercises. Needless to say, I was drenched in sweat when it was all said and done.

Goal today: no nibbling.
Positive self-talk: my body is getting leaner with every workout and clean meal I eat.

Have a good one!
Terri

Good morning everyone, and welcome, Ched, it's nice to have another newbie -- LMAO

My darlin DH made it to work today so I have the computer all to myself:p. He's leaving this afternoon for a mission trip to some Godforsaken place and I'm worried about him making the 2 hour drive to the airport. Much of Ohio is still a mess. ;(

The weather was really terrible here yesterday. We got about 6" of snow but the ice created a treacherous and nightmarish situation. Currently there are about 120,000 people in my area without power (thankfully, we are not among them), and a dear little girl out walking her dog was killed when a tree limb fell on her -- just heartbreaking!

I didn't do a workout yesterday so I have to get busy today. I think a wild ride on Eli is in order.

August, construction will be going on over your head for a MONTH!? Oh how awful! Can they let you stay in another apartment until the work is completed? I think it would be extremely difficult to work with all that racket overhead. I suppose it would be hard to work at your mom's place. --It sounds like you got in a good head to toe workout this morning. Do you like Winsor Pilates? --Oh yes, Eli is a handsome devil! He's got the perfect bod -- wide, strong shoulders and narrow hips. And he has BIG feet. You know what they say about men with big feet, don't you :p }(

Ched, you're welcome to join our check-in, but I'm going to have to ask you to stop sabotaging August's diet or you may find yourself relegated to the same fate as Mr. Choco Raisin!

Jen, I cannot believe all the shoveling you did yesterday:eek: . How's your back this morning? Did they close your office? For crying out loud, I hope so! Make sure you're not using your back muscles to lift a shovel full of snow -- use your legs. You can really hurt yourself doing that. I've always shoveled the snow around here but I decided that I've had enough and I refuse to do it anymore. I hired someone to plow my driveway for the first time this year and it's worth every cent he charges me. I just can't do it anymore and DH really doesn't have time to do it. I think it's terrible that your neighbor didn't help you yesterday.

Arista, so what did you finally end up doing for Ryan for VD? Did you get the, *ahem* lingerie }(

{{{{{Dana}}}}}, of course you can vent here, and rightly so. Please don't be hard on yourself. I've been thinking about you and how hard you work. Here you are, you have 2 kids, a DH, and a full time job -- your day never ends! I realize your DH works, but it seems to me that you are always sacrificing your leisure activities so that he can indulge in his. I agree with August that your situation should be easy to remedy. I strongly urge you to sit down with him for a long talk.

Whenever I find myself in a similar situation with my DH, I try to use a little reverse psychology, you know, acknowledge his hard work, agree that he needs leisure time and graciously give him that, and then come in for the kill --LOL! Here's where you tell him that he needs to watch the boys on your designated days/times so you can have a little leisure time, too. If that doesn't work, I would not hesitate to take the boys out to the garage and tell him you'll be back in an hour;)

As for your weight loss goals, don't overwhelm yourself. Set your goal for an easily attainable 5 pounds. Once you reach that goal then set another 5# goal. I'll join you in your quest. I was looking back through old posts the other day and I found one from last spring where I had bragged about losing 10#'s. Well, I've gained every bit of that back and then some. I'm terribly inconsistent about exercising and I'm very prone to lapses in good dietary judgment. So I'm in there with you! You WILL be in good shape by summer. Even if you don't lose all the weight you want too, if you work out consistently you will look tones and slender. Let that be you goal instead of some magic number.

Oh crap -- the phone. This post is taking me forever. I'll BB to address the rest of youse in a minute :*

I get the feeling that Ched Cheese and Mr. Choco Raisin wouldn't get along. After all, they're from different sides of the fence. They're not even from the same food group for crying out loud! In order to save Ched Cheese from life under the washing machine, I hearby volunteer to transfer him to my fridge.

I LOVE CHEESE! I grew up eating cheddar, so I kinda view it as a poor man's cheese, but I guess there are cheaper cheeses out there. Its just plain tasty, that's all I have to say. If there was a piece under my washer, I just might go for it...x(

August - Too bad about the drilling. I'm sure your building is strong though, I wouldn't worry. Maybe get some of those earphones that fit around your entire ear (like the people in the music biz wear...) That might drown out the noise (and Ched Cheese's pleas). Feta on Mex? I don't think so sweetie. Unless you were having plain mex chicken or somethin... Could be good!

Robin - I agree with August. 50 is the new 40 (or 30 or something) Its not old. My dad's 56 and I he still runs around like a kid! That's rotten that you have to drive to work today while the DH and kids are home to play. I'd leave the mop bucket and broom right in front of the fridge as a hint. And maybe place the vaccuum in front of the TV...

Terri - I like the idea of setting a little mini-goal for the day. no nibbling is a very good one too!!

My mini-goal is to get my upper body weight lifting in today.

Michele - oh now I know who Eli is! If you guys hadn't talked about ellipticals, I don't think I would've figured it out. (I save my brain power for only the most crucial situations).

I did get the *ahem* lingerie yesterday. Lacy black nothings for bottoms and a crushed velvet lacy camisole thingy. I don't know if I'll be able to figure out how to put it on... but hopefully it won't stay on for long anyway. That's the point, right?}(

Dana - I agree with Michele... you need to sit your DH down for a talk. If all you want is an hour to yourself to workout, you're not asking much! And you deserve it! I'm with Michele on setting the mini-goals too. I also lost 10 pounds last year and have so far gained 5 back. I'd love to do a team effort and focus with you guys on 5 pounds at a time. I have about 23 to lose total.

And I know where you're at Dana, because I was almost 200 pounds at one time in my life. Its not easy, but it can be done. I know you have so much going on right now, so don't get down on yourself when you can't eat perfectly or exercise every day. You shouldn't expect perfection from yourself. But you are perfect just the way you are.

Jen, Diane, Mariah, and anyone I might have missed... Have a great V-Day!! BBL

:*

Hi everyone -

Dana - I agree with Michele. Small goals. And that reverse psychology idea for DH sounds good. He gets his free time, and you get yours. I wonder if there is something you can do in the same room as your kids, like those minitrampoline or something small, so that even if no one can watch the boys, you can jump on that for a while and at least get some cardio in.

Michele - That is great that your DH is going on a mission trip, but I can understand the worries. DH and I decided not to get elliptical until we get a bigger house in about a year. I just don't think we have the space for it now without it getting in the way. In our next house, I plan to have a room that is just for working out. I have that now, but it will soon be the baby's room.

August - That stinks about the construction overhead, sounds annoying and scary. Hi Ched, nice to meet you :)

Jen - Wow that really does sound like a workout. Maybe give yourself a little break on days you have 2 hours of shoveling.

Nothing to report here. I haven't been working out lately because of exhaustion and queasiness in the morning. And I am eating horribly, not as much healthy food as I would like when my tummy is upset. But that is just part of the deal I guess. At least I haven't thrown up yet. I am hoping to pick back up on healthy eating and exercise in a month or so after the first trimester is over and I should apparently be feeling better. I am already getting a little belly, I need to start taking pictures.

It's my aunt...I'm on the phone with my aunt. The last time she called we talked for over 3 hours:eek: . I love her but...heeellllpppp!:7 Gotta go:)

Michele, I know what they say about men with big feet.}( They wear big shoes. Nuyck, nuyck.

Arist, LOL not knowing how to get into your little black number. I had the same issues with a leather teddy a little while back. And I love the idea of challenging ourselves to lose 5 pounds together. Starting tomarrow (too many VD treats have been consumed to start today.)

Diane, you should start feeling better in a little bit. Full of energy. Any wait until the last trimester when the old "nesting" urge kicks in.

Shucks, gotta go back to work.

Just here for a minute... I am at work, they didn't close our office today. Only about 1/2 of the people made it in though. Some counties are telling people not to leave their houses b/c the roads are all drifted over. They had people out on snowmobiles yesterday trying to get to people who were stuck in their cars on roads that you couldn't get to even with 4 wheel drive, etc....

In total we had 12 inches of snow but it was the drifting that caused all the issues. I had to shovel again for 40 minutes this morning to get out again. I was here about 7:45 at work & I am leaving today at 2 CST & taking 2 hours PTO. I am exhausted & was almost in tears this morning knowing I had to go back out & shovel. The high here today is 15, it was like 7 when I was shoveling. My neck & back are screaming at me today!

Anywho, I am going to drop off my taxes when I leave, grab a few small things at the grocery store, then home to have a few drinks, catch up on the forum & all the ^^^^, then take Unisom and hit the hay early tonight!

BBL when I am home! I am taking tonight off from w/o, it is my scheduled off day! :)

Michele - where do you find those smilies???? So are you still on the phone? LOL

Jen - I cannot believe all the shoveling you've done in the past 2 days. Shovel away sunshine!!!:p You deserve a nice relaxing evening. Is it done snowing in your area or is more expected?

August - that sucks about the renovations in your building. With your hectic schedule how are you going to get any rest? I think your landlord needs to put you up at a posh hotel for the next month. Your mom lives in your builing right?

Arista - did you get Ryan his present (actually your present)? Ha! That is great that you were able to run 3 miles. Impressive! 50 degrees? Man do I wish I was in your area. It is only 20 here. Thank for all the nice things you said.

Terry - my boys are 5 1/2 years old and 17 months and although they are the loves of my life, the also drive me bonkers!!!!! Is Papa whoever you mentioned a pizza chain? I've never heard of them. We Papa Johns around here.

Robin - did the snow stop? I think it did here. The roads are still covered but it the cars don't look like they are having much trouble.

Diane - just wait til you're in your 2nd trimester. You're gonna wonder where all the energy comes from. Did you tell your co-workers?

Thanks for all the nice things you all said. I think, I mean I know, that my DH is clueless. He takes everything that I do for granted. I do everything around here and whenever I say anything to him about it, he claims it is the woman's job. I want to just smack him upside the head. He has all the free/leisure time he wants and I do everything. The only rest I even get is when I go to bed. I rarely sit down when I get home from work and am on the go until bed. I tried working out w/the kids but it doesn't work, which is why I moved all my exercise stuff to the basement. It used to be in my bedroom. Gannon crawls all over me and I can't get in a workout.

I am having another crazy day. Last night I took 2 tylenol PM just so I could fall asleep. I'm trying to get the work done that my boss gave me. Everythihng is webbased so I can do it right here. But I've got kids driving me nuts! Gabe is in here bugging me like you can't believe. I need a vacation ALONE!!!!!!

I guess that I better get back to work. Yuck! Have a great day everyone!

Well I better get back to work.:) :) :)

I used to start coughing and say i cant talk or i would just say hello hello are you there then mutter to yourself damn the phone must have died hello if your there speak up and then just hang up the phone

Nope, co-workers don't know yet, though I have a few friends that suspect it and I haven't denied it. I won't officially tell work until about 14 weeks if I can make it that long. May have to be 12 weeks considering how my belly looks right now. I heard that right after people at work find out, an email goes out to all the partners right away so everyone knows. And then this one female partner who deals exclusively with attorney employee takes you out to lunch and politely asks if you are going to continue working. It is all very annoying. Everyone here is so career driven that people will be shocked when I tell them I am planning on staying home. They will think I am crazy. I remember last year a Harvard law grad, US Supreme Court clerk girl decided to stay home after she had taken her paid maternity leave. Everyone was freaking out about it at work. I will do about the same (why give up 3 months of free salary?) so people will be pretty mad at me. Oh well. That's life.
