Hand position for pull-ups

Can you explain the correct hand position for pull-ups? I thought that palms facing away was the hand position for pull-ups and palms facing in was for chin-ups. But in the blog pics, it shows the gals using the tower and states they are doing various kinds "pull-ups" yet their hands are facing in.

Also, is there a difference in difficulty between doing pull/chin ups from a standing vertical position vs sitting (like in the blog pics)?

Thanks!

JJ

Technically, palms up is a chin up and palms down is a pull-up, but the word “pull-up” is quite often used to describe both types.

As for difficulty, a seated pull-up is very similar to a vertical pull-up in that load is the same. The only difference is the seated pull-up puts more stress on the core.

You can make the seated pull-up easier by keeping your feet planted on the ground just like a supine pull-up.
