I did a couple of Christmas' ago...If I remember correctly it is similar to ebay where the seller is responsible for shipping the item to you once he/she is paid. I think the forms of payment are the same as ebay as well. I don't recall it being difficult at all and I was not disappointed.

I use half.com way more than I should. I purchase books, DVDs, and CDs from them weekly. I've never, ever had a problem. I just purchased season 2 of Curb Your Enthusiams - in like new condition for $20 and I got it in 2 days! Make sure to read the comments carefully, however. Sometimes they will say things like, "Does not come in originally packaging" or "CD does not contain liner notes". But I really, really like this site and eagerly recommend it!
Also, it's also easier than ebay in that you don't bid, you simply click on the product you want, click on the price you want to pay - and it's as simple as that!

Like the others have said, it's kind of like eBay in that it's random people selling their stuff online - but there's no bidding like on eBay. Sellers get feedback just like on eBay, and you definitely want to read the item descriptions. I've bought and sold stuff on half.com (bought more than I sold, unfortunately for my checkbook!). It's a neat site and you can get some great deals. 
half.com belongs to ebay and it works exactly like ebay except for the fact that the items are not auctioned. The sellers sell their items and you buy them (first come first served). If you want to buy an item, you do a search, you buy the one that you want, the seller sends you an email confirmation (or cancellation) and then if the transaction is successful they normally send you an email when they shipped your item. I buy a lot of books through half.com.

Definitely the way to go when buying books. I just bought three books from there this past month. My daughter bought all of her supplemental reading material for college here. Much cheaper than the bookstore at the college. Purchased tons from half.com in the last four years and never had any problems.
