GYm Style vs Slow and Heavy

Cathlete
Hello. I (used to) train with heavy weights in the gym--30lbs for incline bench. Because of school, I am now going to be training with Cathe only. I have no problem with her endurance weight workouts because the weights are only moderate to heavy. However, I was wondering what everyone else thought of between Gym-style and Slow and heavy. I have Gym-style, but should I also get slow and heavy? Would these workouts benefit me? Also, I pre-ordered her new series which I now has heavier weight work. Thanks,

Kristen

Hi,

I have both Gym Styles and Slow & Heavy, and although Gym Styles is a little less endurance focused as compared to Muscle Endurance, I still feel it is a little fast if you are trying to use your heaviest weight. I personally love Slow & Heavy and am hoping that the weight parts of the new workouts are more like that than any of the others. JMO;-)

i own both and alternate them weekly. slow and heavy really focuses on muscle building b/c the movements are so slow. I like the pace of gym style. i don't really do endurance workouts b/c i like to kill myself with heavy weight. with slow and heavy, you only lift for 8 reps so you can really focus on having a heavier weight while gym style still has slightly higher reps and you could not lift as heavy. if you have the money, i would invest in slow and heavy as well to add variations. i too don't go to the gym anymore and i only do cathe's workout tapes at home.

Here is what I have been doing since I lift heavier than Cathe even in her more endurance-based workouts. I go the the Mix-Match and actually pick out the specific exercise. So, for example if I am doing shoulder presses and using Gym-Style Back, Shoulders, and Biceps DVD I will press shoulder press for three or four sets---much like what you would do at the gym. Right now I am on a 6 day rotation:
day one: heavy shoulders, chest, triceps + abs
day two: heavy back, rear shoulders, biceps + abs
day three: legs & glutes + calves
day four: "toning" shoulders, chest, triceps + abs
day five: "toning" back, rear shoulders, biceps + abs
day six: legs & glutes + calves

I also do Cathe cardio on these days. Cardio is a mixture of DVDs like kickboxing, drillmax, high intensity step, etc. I do cardio and then weights. Trust me, with over 25 DVDs, I have alot of DVDs being put into use!! }( This is why I DON"T need a gym...I get more from staying at home, "torturing" myself with the techniques and exercicses Cathe does. Still my FAVORITE workout is
Drill Max + Imax 3 blasts + BM2 power circuit (no weight) + HSTA + Imax 2 blast #4, #9, #10...What a sweat fest!!

Anyways, thanks everyone. I have Slow and Heavy in old-school VHS, so I will have to get it in DVD.
