gym style chest and tris

Cathlete
Hi everyone

I am looking for a bit of insight hopefully. I have been doing the gym styles off and on all summer (4 weeks here, break, the 4 weeks there). i match Cathe in nearly every weight. i am frustrated, though, with my triceps, the lying cross body extentions, particularly. The crew and Cathe are using 10lbs I think, and i can only do 8 with good form (can eek out 1 set with 10, but definately not 2). I cannot seem to push past this. Also, same for the one armed standing extensions. Any hints to break this plateau?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Try just adding one or two reps more each time with the 10# and eventually you'll work up to a full set.

Luckily, these are both moves that you can assist yourself with.

Start the exercise on your weaker side (usually the left, if you are right-handed). Use the heavier weight, doing as many reps as you can with good form, then start to do assisted reps: use your other hand to help get the weight to the top position (use as little help as necessary), then slowly lower the weight, working on the negative. Only do as many reps on the other side as you did (with and without assistance) on the weak side.

Same thing for the one-arm standing extensions.

Don't worry if you can't do the same number of reps as Cathe. In a gym setting, you wouldn't always do the same amount of reps. If your goal is 12 reps, you'd start with 8, work up to 12 with that weight, then move to a heavier weight once you can do 12 easily, and decrease number of reps again.

thank you both evry much for your help. i will try these suggestions and hopefully get a bit stronger in my tris.

Boy, you've made me feel better. I can match (or sometimes exceed)Cathe on EVERY tricep exercise but these. I always wonder what the deal is with this particular exercise. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
