GS Question

Hi Catheites,

Is it okay to jump right in and use series such as GS, PS and the pyramids (with lighter weights) if you haven't been doing any weight training for a while (say, about a year!)? Or, is it better to start with full body workouts? Thanks for any input!

Thea

I think it is o.k. as long as you really do cut back on the weight. I'd try at least 1/2 the weight and see how you feel. The first few workouts will be a great indicator of what the perfect weight is. Remember, it is better to go too light than too heavy! You'll be sore for days and have to take additional rest time...which SUCKS!

I just wanted to say I did CTX after a year off due to major family issues. I got great results with a months rotation. I tried to come back a number of times but this did the trick.

A number of folks swear by CTX.

I agree with the recommendation to do the CTX Series. I was not able to do cardio for six months so when I did start back with cardio workouts I grabbed the CTX Series first.

1) The workouts are shorter but still intense.
2) You work every body part plus you have Leaner Legs and the Upper Body Split.
3) The series has variety built into it.

Like has already been suggested, start back with weight training useing light weights such as #3, #5, #8 dumb bells. You want to go slow to prevent really bad muscle soreness, which will only discourage you from moving forward. Same goes for leg work, start with using no added weight or only #5-#10 for squats and lunges. The weight of your own body will be more than enough of a workout until your muscles get better acclimated to exercise again.

I have been working out with the CTX Series for four weeks now, taking one rest day a week. However, during the first week back I exercised every other day so my body had time to rest and repair from the shock of doing cardio again. I'm feeling great, past the muscle soreness but I will stick with the CTX rotation for two more weeks before I start adding in longer workouts.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Hmmm, I may have to dust off the 'ole CTX series. Kind of forgot about that one! I would like to do the CTX series (have it on VHS) but I am also getting back into running and have a 3-day per week program for that...would you suggest cutting out the cardio on CTX the days I run/walk and just doing the weight portion or adding on to the whole CTX workout? My run/walks are about 25-30 minutes and I have been doing those a couple of weeks. Thanks again for the feedback!:)

Thea,

I am in agreement about everything that has been mentioned previously...to answer your question about using the CTX cardio...I think it would be fine to run on the days you choose and do CTX cardio on the other days. You can do a bodypart/day using the CTX series. So, on the days you run/walk, just do your CTX weight portion only...

Hope that makes sense...hope everything goes great for you!

I'd advise doing total body weight workouts for a couple of weeks (2-3 a week), then moving on to splits.

Thanks again for the advice! I have some thinking to do before next week! I really appreciate everyone's input!

Thea - let us know what you decide.

BTW I did a one month CTX rotation when I started my comeback. I tried coming back with BB, Intensity and it just didn't work but CTX did the trick! There is certainly no boredom. Personally I wouldnt do anything but CTX for at least the first week or so.

I also just have it on VHS but its still great.

This forum is great for supporting you as you come back.

I must say the woman on the daily check-in are particulary supportive too :)

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks, Robyn!

I am still deciding what to do. I may lean towards CTX....I am sick with a stupid cold this weekend so I am fearful this will derail me come Monday morning! Think I just need to get up and make it happen, make adjustments as needed! Thanks, I will be sure to check in!:)
