Grind and Brew Coffee Makers

With all the coffee addicts around here I figure this is the palce to get an honest review.

Does anyone have a grind and brew type coffee maker that they would recommend that isn't more expensive than their dishwasher? It can't be too loud or too complicated. I don't want anything too detailed for night before preparations or early morning or post workout emergency caffeine loading!

The Cuisinart, it is about $99, easy to use & brews great coffee. Bed Bath & Beyond carriers it & use their 20% off coupon. Even though their coupons have an expiration date, they never expire.

I don't have one, but my friends got one a few years ago and they hated it. It turned out that the chamber that grinds the coffee would get all hot and steamy when the coffee brewed and the leftover groud (and wet) coffee was impossible to clean out, especially since you couldn't remove the chamber from the machine. They said the coffee tasted great but the machine was really inconvenient. I think it was a cuisinart and over $100. Maybe they've fixed this problem now but I'd still be wary. I've tried every kind of coffee maker and now I have a senseo and I love it. It's pretty cheap, super convenient, easy to clean, and fast. You can use the pods or buy a special holder that allows you to use your own coffee (this is what I do, I'm a coffee snob and I like to grind my coffee-but the pods aren't bad and are even easier to deal with). Good luck! I know that coffee is very important!

Judy, I've never had a grind and brew machine but, like Amy, I've heard a lot of negative things about them. I recently had to replace my coffee maker and I bought this one:

I love it. It makes a great cup of coffee and it's very easy to program. I use a Krups coffee grinder and I'm happy with that as well.

I'd recommend Epinions and Amazon for reviews of the various coffee makers. Good luck with your search.

Capresso - had mine for about 8 years. Never a problem. Easy. Love it. Think it's around $200 right now, but for 8 years I'm not complaining one bit!

I have a Cuisinart grind and brew. For one, it is a pain to clean. Also it wastes beans because when I clean it out I frequently find beans that haven't been ground. Lately I've been using my old coffee grinder and running the coffeemaker with the grind feature turned off. I don't think I'll buy another one. Because of the extra time cleaning it I don't think it's faster or any more convenient than grinding the beans myself. JMHO.

We used to have a Cuisinart and it was okay, not the greatest. It finally broke and DH found a Krups G&B. We LOVE it!

It's not too loud, but sounds just like a regular hand grinder. The best thing about it is the fact that it still uses filters. The cuisinart didn't and we always seems to end up with grounds in the coffee. The grinding basket tends to get sludge in it, but it's really easy to clean.
HTH, Judy!

Wow, I have never had any of the problems you guys have had with my cuisinart. It is really easy to clean, all the beans get ground & the coffee is really good. Maybe, I do not have these problems because the machine is only about 3 years old. I too also have the senseo, I love it love it love it. It is so good for a quick single cup of of coffee. What I do is put a regular pod in & a flavored pod in to get a coffee with a touch of flavor.

Thanks everyone.

Michele- I have the same Cuisanart as you, and have been grinding separately with a krups grinder. I think I'll just wait until this one dies before replacing it. It does make great tasting coffee; we really like to grind the beans right before brewing. And I was lookign for a convenient shortcut.
