I'm a big pilates fan and have been doing it for years. I stumbled upon the Rael (System 27) Pilates and was very surprised as to how good it was.. Rarely do my abs hurt, regardless of what i do, but have to say... felt this.

I love that DVD also. I teach Pilates in a health club and have recommended this DVD to some of my participants as an excellent home workout

How do you think Pilates rates as a lower body workout? I'm trying to steer clear of the heavy weights for my legs and am incorporating more of Cathe's floor work. Are there any DVDs that you would recommend?

I'd like to know this, also. Opinions, Pilates people?

This will be an interesting thread if anyone who does pilates actually chimes in. :) My friend who does Cathe and knew I was going to the road trip asked me to ask Cathe what her opinion of "no sweat" workouts are. I never had the nerve to ask!!

All I know is I did a Winsor Pilates ab workout that had me in so much pain I could barely get out of bed the next morning. I'd really like to know about the lower body workouts now, though.

I have been doing isulpt ballet, iscuplt combination and Cathe's floor workout of butts and guts and gym style legs for the past few months for lower body as my knees cannot handle heavy weights for squats and lunges anymore. I have had great results.

I am new to pilates, but I recommend the Winsor Pilates Buns & Thighs DVD. I've had it for awhile now but didn't unwrap the packaging and start using it til last week. YEOWCH! It's a 20-minute side kick series that really gets in there and burns!

MTV Mix is the best pilates DVD I own. It's about an hour & it's a pretty good total body routine. I also really like Ana Caban's pilates for abs--that one always gives me DOMS in the core.

i have the mtv pilates and enjoy it, however there is something classic and serene about the rael system which still "cuts to the core"== unlike mtv which i feel is similar to many workouts.

I am a Pilates person, have been doing it for 20 years and have been certified and instructing for 5 years. I think the best Pilates leg workouts are done on the apparatus: stability chair and reformer specifically. A mat workout will help shape and tone up legs/ glutes and really helps the ligaments of the joints of the lower body, but if you are looking for Cathe strength workout results, I don't believe you will get this in a mat workout.

I love the Winsor Pilates ab sculpt and Buns/ thigh sculpting. Great 20 min workouts. You can add leg weights to the buns/ thighs and it has some similar moves to Legs & Glutes floorwork. HTH!

I think one of my favs for a longer one is Winsor Pilates Maximum Burn Advanced, super sculpting and body slimming workout (50 min one, there is also a 20 min one). And also the Advanced Sculpting circle w/o.
