Great Choice! Thanks for the advice all

I just wanted to thank you all for the advice on which personal trainer to choose. Recall my choice came down to 2 individuals, one male and one female. Overwhelmingly you suggested I go with the gal and WOW! What a great choice. I had my first session tonight. NOw I'm sure the guy would also have been great, but she is also a registered dietician, running a place here in Ohio called Doctor's Weigh and I can't believe the information I gleaned out of 2 short hours. Funny thing is that I consider myself well educated in the field of fitness. But talk about taking it to a whole other level! I'm floored. (She also told me that the county where I live is the fattest county in the COUNTRY!!!!!!!!) How sick does that make me!? Yuk!

Anyway I'm just psyched about it and wanted to thank you all for your input!

Hey Lorrie! I'm so glad you enjoyed your session with her and are happy with your choice! Makes it a great investment:) Now, you know you are gonna have to give us all the new info you have acquired right?:p

jes:D

Wow..Lorrie! I am so glad it worked out for you. I'd always pick a woman given the choice..:)...wonder how she feels about a Vegan diet... :D ..I hope you keeo us posted on your results...:)..Carole

How many sessions a week will you be having? She worked with you for 2 hours? Or was the first hour an assessment?

Good luck & I hope you get the best out of it.

Marla

Yes Marla the first hour was an assessment. It was so refreshing to have somebody FINALLY understand that I need to lose weight from a body fat perspective! All of my friends and relatives, even DH say that I'm fine where I am. But I know that my body fat needs to come down and she so understood what I meant. Also I never knew that you weren't supposed to take your calcium supplement at the same time of day as your iron supplement. The iron binds to the calcium and you pee away the calcium. So she's got me doing my iron supplements in the a.m. and calcium in the p.m.

Carole, she loves a vegan diet and that's something I'm going to explore a bit more with her. I told her of my frustration with freestyle and how I didn't see results from it. (You KNOW how disappointed I was after a month :-( ) and she knew exactly what I was talking about. She was totally familiar with the book. She's got me going heavy again. I'll be working with her once a week to start (I'd like more, but there is this thing called money) and she actually works out with me. So last night we planned the routine we'll do. We'll start with 30 minutes of cardio (she likes cardio first) then the resistance. I'm so pumped about this! Again, thanks you guys!

Lorrie

AND I forgot - all of my abdominal work will be with weights as well. Ankle weights (yes she checked my form to look for back issues) and dumbells. She had me doing bike maneuvers holding 2 8-pounders. WOW - I felt those obliques like never before!

Lorrie

Thanks for sharing all this good info, Lorrie.

Besides adding weights with abs, what else have you "learned" that you didn't know already?

Candi - so many things that I still have to go back and sort them all out. But aside from the weights and the supplement combinations one of the things we talked about was genetics. I carry my weight, as so many of us do, in my lower body. I told her that genetically that's the hand I've been dealt. She dismissed that immediately as an excuse that we've allowed to be created and accepted. Now argue if you will, but she said that some gentics cannot be changed, eg things like a long nose or large teeth, but when it comes to body issues, while you may not be able to change things like your height, body fat and muscle definitaion are under your control. Educate, learn, learn, learn.

I was surprised that we will incorporate the lunges used in my old Firm workouts, as opposed to Cathe's static lunges. And with heavier weights. This is going to be so interesting. (Candi - are you the one for whom freestyling also didn't work? If so I'd love to talk more with you about that.)

Here's another interesting tidbit, she does her research out of Case Western Reserve Univ., and said there have been more recent tests on ephedra, and actually the FDA is considering allowing it again because it can truly be effective WHEN USED PROPERLY. I could just keep going, but I won't bore you all.

Lorrie

Lorrie,

Yes, I am the freestyle challenged person of which you speak.

I would also love to talk more with you about this. Very, very interesting stuff :)

Lorrie,

Please keep us posted, I would be very interested in your results with your lower body. I share your problem.

Thanks,
Debbie

Lorrie,

What type of lunges are used in the firm and did she explain why these lunges would be better for you?

Thanks

Hey Lorrie!
