Great Article about 'Thinness' by JK Rowling

Good article - thanks for sharing! Rowling has a great way of expressing herself to teens. I'm going to print this off for my 13 and 11-yr-old sons. My 5-yr-old daughter's a bit young, but the subject will definitely be coming up in the next few years.

Thank you so much for informing us about the article....I LOVED it. My favorite spinning instructor at the gym who also teaches tai chi and is very spiritual said we should stop looking at all the sh*t on tv which gives us ridiculous ideas about what we are "supposed" to look like. That is why I like the Dove print ads so much.... and beauty is also only skin deep. Besides thinking that I look better with nice, strong biceps, triceps and shoulders, I also FEEL great after a hard workout...I feel accomplished, that I had the drive to keep going and the strength to push my body so hard. Why can't we all just embrace our individuality, instead of trying to comform to some stupid Hollywood idea of beauty....at least once upon a time, a woman with curves was envied, like Marilyn Monroe.

What a great article. My mil thinks that Jk Rawling is a witch and will burn in hell. I chose not to argue with her. But personally I feel that she is absolutely wrong. I almost forwarded on that article to her and said, "does this sound like a witch to you?", but chose not to. I don't need to stur up trouble. And that is exactly what I'd be doing.
But thank you for sharing that with us!

Interesting and thoughtful and I wonder if after those who read will still feel compelled to lament to the forum that they are not "bikini ready" or post their daily menu to apparently prove they have the willpower to subsist on egg whites and soy milk and/or seek the approval of others for their eating habits. I doubt very few such boards exist for men as they do not appear quite as obessive about such silly things.

Yeah, dh and I are always in awe over the women. Because she looks at Harry Potter as evil, yet, get this, the Lord of the Rings is based on the bible (so she says), and so is the Cronicles of Narnia.
She's an intersting women, my mil.

Huge thanks for sharing this Kristy. I just e-mailed it to my 3 daughters (16, 15 and 11) and know it will result in some healthy discussion. We love JK Rowling, my 15 year old is reading Half Blood Prince for the 4th time and I love your Marauder's Map signature line.

Take Care
Laurie:)

thanks, Kristy! I sent the article to my sis to save for my niece. She's only six but her 8 year old brother has read all the Harry Potter books many times over, and is now reading them to her. I hope she always loves magic and fantasy!

ETA: edited to correct my appalling grammar.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage
