Got my 1st Kettlebell & ordered a KB DVD...I have questions.

I think they are fine. That's exactly what I did, I returned my 15# gofit and got a 18# and now just got a 26#. I got the plain ones because I'm cheap. The vinyl is prettier and maybe helps to not mark up floors? I think it was fit44 here that got the vinyl covered ones. Personally I didn't like the vinyl one (like the go fits) because if I held them by the ball part it slipped more easily in my sweating hands.

Thanks Lisa -

I'll just forget about the premium Ader bells since basically they all weigh the same lol If I feel the horns fussing with my hands I'll just use my gloves :)

So now which to pick the colored ones or the basic ones hmmm decisions decisions.

Lisa what do you use for those TGUs as far as weight?

I'll be practicing with that one for a bit as getting up from the floor holding the 15# is woo!

Oh I have hardwood floors would the plain ones be okay?

I use a 10 lb dumbbell for TGUs. KBell way doesn't have any TGUs, thank goodness.

If I worked out on hardwood floors or if the KB would get anywhere near a HW floor, I would spring for the vinyl covered.

One thing I've noticed while shopping online for bells .

It's recommended to start with a 18# bell but when I go and look around I only see bells going up a 5# increment like my 15# Go Fit and the 20# Go Fit.

Or the metric bells......

The 8kg is really 17.6lbs so its just thought of as an 18# and the 12kg is really 26.4lbs.

So really there is no 18 # kb lol funny.

Still not sure if I'll return the 15# one .

For those that have more than a few bells do you think having 15, 18 ;) and 26 lb bells as a good starter base?

Man I'm even tired of myself asking these questions - sorry but between here & VF I've read tons and I just want to get started already.

Hope you all can understand

I think I'm done for today - I'll be dreaming of kettlebells oy!

I have an 8kg (around 18 pounds), and started with that one. I felt pretty challenged with that weight and had to substitute lighter dumbbells for some exercises at first.

Then I found a good deal on a 12 kg/26 lb kettlebell at my local Modell's store, so I bought it. I've gotten to the point where I can do a whole workout with the 8kg, and on really good days I can throw in the 12 kg for the swings and some of the squats and lunges.

So, the shorter answer to your question is "yes"! That sounds like a really good combination for getting started.

Thanks so much Lisa for your reply.

I ended up ordering The Kettlebell Way and my Lauren Brooks dvd shipped yesterday so its just a matter of time before I get it all together.

Super!

Sorry, I didn't notice that you asked about the weight I used for TGUs. At first, nothing. Then, I tried with my 8kg bell but promptly realized that it was just not happening!

So, I grabbed an 8-lb dumbbell and used that for a while, until I felt totally comfortable and felt that my form was good. Then I moved up to a 12, which is where I am now.

I've been studying this thread and checking out all the sites and dvds, Performbetter.com has the same vinyl KBs as on artofstrength.com, but on sale. Thanks to the poster who provided the perform better site. And thank you Kathryn for the info on what size to choose.

The providence dvd is on sale for $40, and they don't carry The Kettlebell Way.

So I just purchased the 8KG vinyl coated KB ($33) and providence. I can refer to the aos site for pointers on form. And the shipping is $10 which seems fair considering the sale prices.

I wanted to order PUB/PLB, but I'm doing GS rotation now anyway, so I think this will be fun to have something new and I can add it in one day a week right away to my GS rotation. I've been trying to spread out the spending.

Thanks everyone for all this great info!
