Hey all,

finished a good one a few days ago, 'Cotton.' Here's the review from a couple of sources:

I agree with the reviews regarding the ending being too pat, but the rest of the book was so funny and bittersweet and unexpected that I didn't care. For those who would rather avoid such topics, there is a fair amount of sex in the book, though it's all organic to the story, rather than being sort of obvious and awkward and thrown in as sex is in so many novels these days.

I'd give it a solid B+

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow - what a ride!’ — Peter Sage

Thanks for the recommendation, Sparrow. I used your link to check it out and added it to my wish list. I tend to like the books you pick out.

Are you settled in your new home yet? Did your move go smoothly? I wish you and your DH many happy years under your new old roof. How old is your home, by the way?

:)

hi Michele!

The move did go smoothly, thanks for asking. The only thing we have had trouble with is our high speed internet company, who are filled with...doffuses? doofi? :D but after much weeping and yelling into the phone it's finally up and running. So, we are moved in for the most part, though we don't have enough furniture at this point. but I'm determined to not just buy any old thing - the house was built in 1929, so I want vintage pieces - so I'm waiting to find the right things. People will have to bring their own chairs when they come to visit, at least for now!!

Do check out Cotton. As I said, it's unexpected. What are you reading now?

I love shopping for the home, especially if it entails vintagy, antiquey kinds of stuff. How fun!! If I come across any special little 1929 era farm house items I'll let you know. I'm forever perusing antique shops, shows, and malls.

I just started reading "Artemisia: A Novel" by Alexandra Lapierre. It's a largely biographical account of the life and times of the 17th century Italian artist, Artemisia Getileschi. Lots of drama and tragedy. I'm going to Italy in October so I'm immersing myself in all things Italian. Next in line are some highly rated travel books and The Betrothed by Alessandro Manzoni.:D
