good news for the environment

I just received an email from National Wildlife Federation saying that Victoria's Secret has agreed to decrease the amount of paper from trees cut from endangered Boreal forests in their catalogs and increase the amount of recycled paper. They're starting with 10% recycled paper and increasing the amount every year. This makes me happy because Victoria's Secret was one of the big offenders on this issue because they send out so many catalogs. There are other big companies doing this as well and maybe more will follow in their footsteps. Just had to share.

Um, there is a cheaper easier way to reduce the amount of paper they use......quit sending me the same catalog every other day. It has become quite a joke in our house.....Oh Look! Another VS catalog, imagine that, we never get these!

10%, that's rather paultry. But I guess any bit helps.
(I'm not much impressed with "decreasing" the amount used from endangered forests....why not "eliminate" paper from trees from endangered forests?)

I just hope it's "POST-consumer" recycled, and not "Pre-consumer" recycled, which doesn't change much. since it's a practice that paper mills have used for years, even before calling it 'recycled" saving the scraps from edges cut from envelopes and the like and putting them back into the production line before the paper even leaves the factory.

I agree with Dorothy - they could do a lot better by not sending so damn many catalogs in the first place!

Agreed! It frustrates me no end the amount of unwanted paper I get in the mail each day. I've had my name put on that "no catalogs" list TWICE but every time I order from somewhere, I get tons of catalogs AGAIN.
