Cathlete
Hi All,

I'd like you to join me in wishing Carolyn, my big sis, a bon voyage. She and her DH and their two kitties are moving to Germany! Their flight leaves tonight and I know she's stressed about the travel and finding a place to live, etc. Carol: I know you'll be fine and I can't wait to visit you in Europe.

love,
Amy

Bon Voyage, Carolyn!! Where abouts in Germany? Is this a permanent move? (Nosey, aren't I--lol!). My DH has been there many times and will have many more trips to Deutschland in the future. It's a beautiful country and I hope you love it there! Good luck and all my best to you and your DH. Please remember we're always as close as the Cathe forums :)

Thanks Michele & Carole! Michele, they'll be in Heidelberg, probably for 3 years or so. Her DH will be the chief of the post's PT clinic. They've heard great things about the city and the environs. I can't wait to visit! But of course I'm also super sad about the huge distance (neither her or I like to fly) and the 8 hour time difference because we talk on the phone so often. I just called her to tell her about this post and they just packed up the laptop, so she'll have to wait a little while to see your well wishes, but of course I will pass them on when I talk to her tonight before they leave.

Amy

How exciting for your sis! Heidelberg is very pretty and living overseas is wonderful! bon voyage to them!

Amy, have you heard of Skype? Here's the link: http://www.skype.com/

My DH travels out of the country frequently and we're thinking of signing up for this phone service. My DH knows much more about it than I do but I understand it's FREE!!

I remember being on a train and seeing the stop for Heidelberg. I took a picture of the sign because there's a college named for it in my hometown and my sister graduated from there.

My DH has several colleagues in Germany and he goes there every year or 2 for meetings. He'd move there in a heartbeat--he loves it!

Michele, I haven't heard of skype, but it sounds awesome. DH & I have vonage now, and they just got vonage, so we can talk as much as we want with that. But vonage is about $25 a month and free is much better! I'll look into it, thank for the suggestion. Everyone who's been to Germany seems to love it. Do you think you'll move there someday? Our dad was stationed at Sembach AFB in Germany for about 8 years (in two separate tours) when we were kids (Carolyn was actually born at the Landstuhl medical center). But I was only 5 when we left and she was only 8 or 9 so it will be like going for the first time. Fun!

Amy, we first heard about Skype on the Clark Howard show (clarkhoward.com). We've always found his advice to be reliable.

I don't know if we'll ever move there or not. I DO know we'll spend a significant amount of time there through the years. DH went to college for a semester in Marburgh, then he worked for a summer at a lodge in the Bavarian Alps. He was just in Berlin a few months ago, and Munich a few months before that. He's fluent in German but I can't speak a word. He'd like me to learn the language but right now I'm focusing on learning Italian (my mother's native tongue).

I'm sure Carolyn and her DH will love it. And how nice for you to have a built-in vacation destination!
