Good Endocrinologist? /a little long

I know this isn't what is usually on the board, however, I thought I would ask anyway. I'll give you a brief history. I had graves disease about 19 years ago and then had my thyroid radiated. Since that time I have become hypothyroid. I found an endocrinologist and he precribed cytomel or T3 for the first time with my levothyroxine. Well, although my t4 and t3 were within range because my tsh was not in range he kept lowering my dosage of levothyroxine and now I feel like crap. I'm hypothyroid for sure and he seems to care more about the numbers than how I feel. I was so happy for those few months when everything started to fall into place and I was feeling better. Now I've gained weight again, feel cold in my hands and feet and feel very bloated. Not to mention the fatigue and the overall dragged down feeling. I live in Minnesota, close to Minneapolis, does anyone know of a good endocrinologist? Thanks ahead of time.

I don't have an answer for your area, but when we moved near Charlotte a few years ago, I was able to research on line and found a wonderful endocrinologist for my daughter. I can't remember all the websites, but there are several where you are able to see their records, any suits filed, get other patient reviews, etc.
Good luck!!!

I live in MN and have the need for many specialists, though not endo. I think some of it may depend on who you have for insurance. I have HealthPartners. The last time I was at the point you are at, frustrated and very upset with my specialist, I spent a lot of time on the Health Partners website. In their website they have an area that lists every doctor that is covered by them by specialty. I went down the line and started researching every doctor and every clinic that they were affiliated with. I spent a couple of frustrating days crying trying to figure out what to do. In that time frame I saw my primary care physician who is SPECTACULAR. He had some thoughts on who was good in the area and who would be good to try next. I went with his suggestion and have been very pleased.

So my suggestions are to check online the different endocrynologists that are covered by your insurance or to call member services for your insurance. Also I checked out other doctor ranking sites online, I think one of them might have been healthgrades.com.

Good luck,

Shayne

Hi Ivy,

About.com has a informative website that has a top doc section. Just go to about.com and search Thyroid and check it out.

I've been having lots of issues with mine medication, too! It's so hard and disapointing. I'm so tired of being tired and exhausted.

Check out about and see if there's any doctors local to you...I sure hope so...

So sorry, unfortunately "treating the numbers" is very common for a lot of endo's, while not listening to your symptoms and what you feel like. It is difficult to find a good one for sure, but not impossible. I'd highly recommend http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Thyroid-Disorders/show/73 thyroid forums. There are great people with good connections and info on that site. They helped me a lot while I was going through an acute phase of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (hypothyroid).

Thanks to all of you so very much for your imput. I will try the suggestions and hopefully begin a road on to managing this problem in a more productive and effective manner. Thanks again.
