Glucosamine

Just wondering if anyone takes this on a regular basis for knee pain and if so has it helped? I do have knee pain sometimes and was thinking about trying this.

Hi,
I take Glucosamine for my knee. I have Septic arthritis in both of my knees but my left one is worse because I hurt my knee when I was pregnant a year ago. I have a "hairline" tear in my cartilage and it helps my knee to stay flexible and comfortable after I workout. I usually drink it after I workout. I don't take the capsules as they take longer to absorb so I buy powdered version and mix it with cold water. It tastes sort of like orange juice.

I have been taking it twice daily for my knee. I can run 10 miles, so I guess you could say it works. However, I've never run without taking it so I couldn't tell you if the glucosamine works or not.

I have taken a combo of Glucosamine/Chondroitin for about 7 years. For my joints overall. I have also heard that it could be possible it'll help with tendons too. I am a distance runner and so far have no knee problems...:)...Carole

I take it for a disk problem in my back and have no pain now. I can't say it's the only thing that's helped, because I also do Pilates and focus on lower-back strengthening, but glucosamine has been a factor.

I drink Joint Juice which you can buy at Costco's in a 24 pack which comes in Tropical Punch and Orange. Seems to help me.

I take it twice a day, and have been since maybe November. I was having a lot of pain in my knees and within about 3 weeks, I could really feel the difference. They almost never hurt now. And if they do, it's short-lived and very minor.

I also buy "old man" dog food for my "old man" dog, and it contains glucosamine. If you didn't see the grey around his muzzle, you'd swear he's still a puppy.

I have been taking it 2x per day for 5 years. It definately has helped my knee issues. It does take a while for you to feel its effects, 4 to 6 weeks usually. I went off it while recovering from surgery and when I started distance running again, my knee pain flared up. I went back to taking daily glucosamine and the knee pain resolved. That's enough to convince me to keep taking it.

I think of glucosamine as a wonder drug. My left shoulder became frozen - I couldn't lift my left arm more than 2 inches from the side of my body. Even when I didn't move, I was in horrific pain - sleep was out of the question.

After starting glucosamine, I felt pain relief within 2 days, could move the shoulder full-range within a week, and was completely pain-free within a month.

That was 6 years ago, and the problem has never returned.

Unfortunately, I now have Type 1 diabetes, and glucosamine sends my blood sugar readings sky-high. If you're not diabetic, try it.
