Gift Ideas for My Dad...

Hello!

My dad will be 52 at the end of the month and I'd like some help regarding what to buy him. I am wondering if there are any cool gadgets out that he might like. The only ideas I have so far are a shoe shine kit and maybe some kind of CD set. Kind of bland, I know lol! He likes "oldies." For those of you in the NY area, he listens to 101.1 all of the time.

I'd greatly appreciate any input. Thanks so much!

Hey! does he have one of those battery powered tie racks that you mount in the closet? it spins around so you can see all your ties before selecting one and it comes with a remote! Very classy! of course, if he doesn't wear ties, then bad idea!

jes:)

Cool idea Jes, and I appreciate your input, but he doesn't have a closet of his own!!! How sad is that? We have a really small house with horrible closet space, and he keeps anything that needs to be hung in the coat closet. Poor dad! Maybe I could build him a closet for his b'day lol.

Thanks!

You could maybe buy him a small closet at home depot. But, maybe his bedroom is too small ;( . Just a thought. We have a small closet in our garage where we keep our scuba gear.

Hey Gina, what is your budget?

The new little iPods are really cool, but they have less expensive mp3's out there.

Is he into any sort of cooking? Maybe a cool cookbook with some stuff to go with it.

My father in law has a tradition of making breakfast on Sunday morning. I got him a unique waffle iron and an apron one year.

I love my GPS unit, and that is a really cool gadget!

It really depends on what his interests are and what you want to spend.

Not sure what your budget is, but here are some gifts that were a hit with my 55-year old dad...

HomeMedics shiatsu massage mat (you put it over a chair). $99 bucks. He loved it (I love it too!)

Laser Pointer (years ago, can't remember how much I spent but it wasn't a lot)

Wine-of-the-month club (I was cheap and opted for 4 months)

battery-operated really small vacuum for his computer. cheap. he's a neat freak.

DVDs of some of his favorite movies.

Huge gift basket I made with different types of gourmet root beer and ginger ale and a variety pretzels. I put it in a galvanized tin washbucket that he fills with ice and uses to chill drinks when they have parties.

Any baseball-oriented book seems to go over well with him.

I think CDs are a great idea if you know what type of music your dad likes.

Oh, what about one of those new laser-leveler tools? I don't think it's very expensive. It helps for putting up pictures, etc...

A good pair of headphones for his music?

Dads are so tough to buy gifts for!

Thanks Dani & LaGuapa!

I'm trying to keep it under $50. You guys gave some great suggestions. I can't seem to reel my dad into the computer age, so anything too high tech is out. I think I'm going to try to go with a CD or DVD set. Maybe I'll search Amazon...

Thanks again :)

Hi Gina! I know I'm a little late to this discussion but wanted to share what I get my dad for his birthday. My dad is 61 and he is a big movie guy. Especially the older movies. For years he has been carrying around an older edition of Leonard Maltons movie guide, so I got him the newest edition. (I think the book is updated each year.) My dad loves the thing and it's pretty cheap. :)
I'm not sure if this suggestion helps or not.

Shirley
